More funds for AH-64s

  11 July 2011- DCS reports congressional approval approved on 7 June for more than US$50m contract to conduct depot repair, modification and overhaul of AH-64s belonging to Mindef. Not sure if this is linked to 30 Sep 2010 emergency landing but my guess is likely yes. 20x AH-64Ds were purchased by RSAF in 2 batches (1998-2001) and delivered in the US from year 2002 onwards. The AH-64s returned to SG in 2006. The US anticipates its helos to each last 27-33 years which may be extended by service life extensions.   Its 20, all with longbow. The longbow radar was negotiated separately.

  The July announcement also conspicuously coincides with LM's announcement yesterday on the arrowhead order for an "undisclosed" customer. Most of the major AH-64 operators don't need to be "undisclosed". Such an order may normally require a DCS/FMS announcement & SG's one may be the only one recently :)

  The longbow radar is removable. Makes sense to train without longbow (shared targeting thru datalinks). Reduces electronic emissions which will give away location & preserve mtbf. Further, I note that UK got their arrowheads in 2005. Dutch in 2007. Most of the new-builds including those of Saudi, Egypt & Taiwan are equipped with arrowheads. I would think Israel would have got theirs long ago. 90% certain, stated contract is for rsaf.

  Another anti-gahmen, inaccurate post. To add, totally irrelevant as well. Singapore debt comprises significantly of CPF monies which have to be parked somewhere. The govt issues bonds to CPF board thus creating debt but parks the money in the three letter entity to invest. The assets of the gahmen exceed that of its liabilities but I doubt if people like that can actually count. Its worrying when certain opposition parties don't want any defence expenditure and starts all these astro-turfing. Otherwise, due to anonymity, difficult to tell if its "foreign talent". lol.

  The CPF only has S$150b in liabilities to date. Total gahmen assets = S$600b. 

  If you were on the intellectual side of the opposition ie WP rather than SDP, you would argue that the gahmen is ironically taxing too much instead of focussing on the wrong side of the argument. But then, you end up being unable to argue expenditure liao...
