From what I understand 'spare tanks' are used as a source of spare parts.
In our case, the 30 spare tanks will provide spare parts for the 66 main tanks.

The engines are serviceable (and there’s a new powerplant is in production that can be installed if required). The gun can be replaced. The BMS is self developed. Don’t see any real concern with keeping all 95 or 96 in service if the SAF really wanted it to.
Even the ammo is new-build. The tank will still be production due to the new Saudi order. Spares shouldn’t be an issue.
I tend to believe this theory. Makes no sense to dismantle the most expensive and least readily replacable items in case of war.
BTW, Army News also mentioned we have a Leopard 2 AVLB (other AVLB include the the Bionix and AMX-13).
2A7... such unrealized potential...

What's the price of a Baktar Shikan?

In MY's case, the MY press reported RM30.9m contract and UN reporting showed 18 launchers + ~450 missiles purchased.
My rough estimate would be RM400k per launcher & RM50k per missile.
Very affordable.
I wonder how many people think the Leopards are a good choice.
All SAF armoured vehicles are sub-30 tons for reasons of lacking infrastructure in neighbouring countries. Malaysia does have decent infrastructure but I don't find it likely we will go to war with Malaysia, or that we even need MBTs to deter them. Leopards would have a real problem in Indonesia, even "developed" places such as Batam. I can more foresee the Leopards being useful when Indonesia invades Malaysia, and SAF helps to counter attack on Malaysian territory when the Malaysians are unable to help themselves.
I by chance discovered that Botswana has an army of 12,000 with 96 A4s and A6s on order.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.... and the Pegasus is used to blow your house up, and the F-15SG is used in case you survive the shelling.

By the way, your assertion that Singapore has the most number of second-hand Leopards in the world is downright false.
Please go and take your Temasek Review nonsense elsewhere.

A 2nd gen ATGM like BShikan Metis has issues. That's because it has to tackle frontal armour (not to mention add on armour). Also, it can be affected by smoke, jamming etc.
http://milparade.udm.ru/security/31/024x.htm
That's why SG ended up using the 4th gen Spike which has a top-attack mode + fire & forget.
True, though there are many non-head on, non-MBTs targets for the BS. Also I wonder if it can take on export variants of MBTs.
The article said jamming or soft kill systems do not work against wire guided missiles like the BS.

germans aint russians, the germans dont believe in downgrading weapons systems they sell to other countries like the russians does.
for the germans, its either they sell you , or they wont.
the russians OTOH will sell you, but you must accept downgraded "EXPORT" version, like the AMRAAMSKI missiles that they sell to other countries.
Even Australian and all other export M1 tanks come without DU armour.

Does the germans export M1 tanks?

No. In any case the M1 (and Challenger and Merkava) is superior in armor protection.
And if Metis or Konkurs had disabled a Merkava I would believe it- the RHA figures are comparable.
Shouldn't cause you any embarrassment though, it is not a local product so don't you bother to respond.

M1 superior only against hollow charges in armour protection. L2 was actually better in KE protection. Don't forget, both were borne out of a joint development. No surprise that the specs for both MBTs are relatively similar. The L2 got the 120mm gun earlier than the M1.
The main difference today is the addition of DU strike plates to the M1 which may not apply for export variants. However, its not in all places and RPG attacks showed vulnerabilities that required patching eg TUSK
Like the M1 & Merks, the L2 has vulnerabilities but it comes with modular armour packages designed to counter specific threats.

The M1 and L2 took a different armor path from the start (modified Chobham vs a different mix of composite spaced armor). The DU widened the gulf even further and when added to frontal and other areas, was probably the decisive factor in protecting from their own 120mm DU penetrators (German penetrators don't have DU).
You're right that DU armour M1s have not been offered for export to any nation. Because of that the L2 is a better choice, and since any 2nd hand early M1s offered for export would also lack hunter killer arrangements the L2 has.
take down the tanks wheels and areas around it ....its not made of anything special.u dun need to waste ammo on armour.
