Ok, so I want to import a East German Military Helmet, but I don't know if they are allowed into Singapore. Anyone else know? I know Gas Masks are, so I think a helmet can?
Can not controlled item, I can help to draft a permit and pay GST. But there is charges. U need to let the permit scan at the custom there when u bring in.
So it cannot be allowed in without a permit?
Of cos. YOu can smuggle. If you are been caught. You pay more that the permit.
On top of your compostive fine, you still need to pay the orginal GST. This is consider personnel effect.
U can self delcare on the packing list as SGD 20-25 dollars for this helmet. Please list the item is not for commercial purpose and is for delclaration purpose only. den 25 x 7% of the GST is SGD 1.75 plus permit is about 30 dollars. You pay only 31.75. Together with the permit and packing list. When you past custom. GO to the red channel and delcare to the officer and let them scan. Den you may import your helmet.
all the helmets sold here r approved by sisir
u better check with those safety departments before bringing in
otherwise if accident, insurance dun want to pay
I'm not going to wear it. It is a antique.
Besides, I'm ordering it from the internet, from a very reliable guy. Could you give me a bit more details on what I have to do to let it be shipped into Singapore?
reliable guy or not - I dun know
easiest way is to pay by paypal and use courier service like dhl, fedex, tnt, speedpost ..... freight payable in singapore and let them handle the import for u.
not sure if speedpost can do
just make sure its not a control item, check with the custom website

Yes. If door to door u can based on DHL, Fedex or speedpost. I think the guy u order wun con u a little money. You can arrange DHL to collect from his door. There are pros and cons using them. You cannot make claim against them. But they are quick.
Freight forwarder Advantage
If you feel unsafe you can let us handle for u. We can collect the money on your behalf and pay you back in singapore. We need authorisation letter from you and Singapore company is Pte ltd Registered and is in black and white. Anything u can claim us back. Another advantage is our air waybill and Bill of lading is Insured so you can claim us if the cargo is damaged or lost.
For big sum involving few thousands and above, you may ask your vendor to prepare letter of credit (LC) mean you receive LC and the cargo arrive in Singapore. You pay the bank and once the seller receive he will release the BL to us to release the cargo to you.

i just checked it from customs....nowadays it seems like its legal to import helmets into singapore!!!during my time they didnt allow bullet proof vest and helmets and were almost same as the firearms category.from newspapers which had info from customs at that time.
best make a call to customs and ask the officer there if u can get your dream helmet into singapore.no point u buy it online and then when it reaches singapore it gets confiscated by singapore customs officers.
just call them up......some of their rules change and some of their rules are strange too.

stupid to restrict so many things.
Just to clear up some things...
Helmets are not entirely illegal in Singapore. It is however a
Controlled Item officially.
It is under "ANECON004" in the official list which is
classified as a "Steel Helmet".
The Police Arms & Explosive
Branch's stand is that it can be approved but in the event that it is
not, the buyer may request for it to be sent back to the sender via a
courier at his own cost.
If it's an old helmet it's usually a high chance of it being approved since it's mainly for collectible or curio purposes.
easy refer to the manufacturer. He sell you definetly he got the ceft or advice. Den you check with custom. they wun confiscated your item. The most u send to the Free trade zone or bonded warehouse. From my experience, you can keep the helmet since it is for collection purpose and doesn't pose any threat against the government.
