Why does Singapore not declare neutrality?

I wonder why Singapore doesn't declare neutrality, so that we can maintain peace with every other country (except for Malaysia :)) If Singapore declares neutrality, we can abolish the wasteful SAF and save on financial resources which can be used for economic development. And all males can save 1.5 years and graduate from University or enter the workforce quickly. Imagine how much more money you can earn in those 1.5 years?! In the post WWII era, no one will go for any land or air combat anymore except for America against the Middle East. Has any Asian country broken into a war in recent years (Not counting the Vietnam War, and that was America's problem again)? Neutrality means no army (like Liechtenstein), and means more resources for the development of the country! Look at Liechtenstein, it has the world's highest GDP (PPP) per capita!

why S'pore has SAF................
1) PAP need army to protect their arses and keep them in power.............
2) to invade M'sia for food and water if relations break down..............
3) becoz our jewish masters want us to help control the vital straits of Malacca..........
i can think of others but the above are the main points.

Yup! Just hate NS. Not enlisted yet. Okay, we need an army to attack Malaysia, but that's the only reason. How much training do we need to deal with a simple bunch of barbarians? But being neutral is good too! Jewish masters? Haha! I thought they would have been wiped out by Hitler!

we don;t negate the fact taht one day our forces might be deployed in larger areas. singapore is too small for any military traingin in fact. long range weapons for defecne. if people choose to attack use have ranged weapon adds versatility inb defence. refueling tankers are common purchases of army. any mission (not only assault or attack missions) will require planes to stay in the air for patrols or without havig to land needs refusing in the air). singapor urban jungles are good for zoo animals only in fact. denser complex terrains will help expose our infantyr to tougher situations and secnaris our small isalnd cannot afford.tell tale sgins of an army prepared for invasion i can tell yo are a suden increase in fighter jets, jets with options to mount and carry large numbers or missles and bombs. purchase and construction of large battle ships with big guns for shelling coastlines. really singapore invest in technology but not quantoty. if you see an increase exceeding the trargeted numbers of weapons then there is a chance that a country is prepared for war. singapore never has a sudden drastic increase in weapons purchase or construction. our budget beside putting into R and D, are just for traingins, in a forigener country and locaally, acquisition of high tech weapons all in small quantities.

any country which wants to remain "neutral" better have all the other countries around them and more by the balls like the Swiss with their banking system (just think how many of the politicians have their money stashed away protected by the Swiss?)
or have an army with enough clout to ensure that anyone who doesn't give a shit about "neutrality" will have their balls cut off if they dare to invade...
either way, the TS has to serve in a conscripted army...
just like the Swiss citizens have to serve in the army

This is ridiculous. The presumption here is that if you declare neutrality, nobody will attack you. Belgium declared neutrality each time and still got invaded by Germany. The second presumption is that if you declare neutrality, the army can be abolished. Rubbish! Switｚerland and Sweden are both neutral nations, yet they have strong and viable armed forces, for the reason that you still have to be prepared to defend yourself. Worse, you have to do this ALL ＢＹ YOURSELF! Is this not a worse situation than having friends who may help? Another point: Sweden had to develop a strong, home-grown defence industry in order to support its armed forces, for the fact that it cannot also expect to receive support from other states in the form of munitions. Look how much more it cost them, trying to develop everything to support a small armed forces, especially if you cannot also export your weapons? These days, Sweden is more realistic, and has began partner non-neutral states in joint development.

in old days it is because most weakr country besides not having a strong army, have weak rulers. most were overrun. why present day no more large scale wars? mankind had learn from the past and most countries now have their own armies. sometimes its not just about country against country. its more about politics and politicians. on the contrtatry i support the gahmen to spend more on militray. they should reais ethe pay for all NSF!
