What if there are not open field when they encounter problems?
Then they won't be flying there due to high rise hazards. The air navigation charts over Singapore has some "no go" areas for low flying aircraft. If I remember correctly, directly over the CBD is one of them
If you look at the heli charts for washington dc on skyvector.com, there are prohibited areas above the capitol building etc. We'd probably have the same charts here.
With regards to military aviation, I think they are also under equivalently strict routes, airspeed and min. altitude.
When helicopters' engines fail, the autorotation allows them "glide" for certain distance. The blades don't just "stop" in mid air, but continue to turn and generate lift. Singapore being what it is, if there's no open space to put the chopper down, then theres always the option of water "landings." I think its better to sink a chopper than to crash into buildings don't you think?
u can land it on a road.,,,,,so if thats autorotation....then pilots did a terrible job at autorotation.and since it was doing a check flight then they shuld have enough height for an autorotation.but what if engine fails abruptly>>>???how many engines has apache got?one??
first fault.....maintenance due to bearings....second fault...pilot autorotated chopper intoa coma that will last for a year.if autorotation was done properly aircraft should land almost i9n 1 piece.....but chopper tail landed first.....what does tat mean???aircraft badly designed??tail heavy??wind blew tail down?no more hydraulics thus cannot straighten to land??dont they have a lock mechanism to straighten aircraft for autorotation/????poorly designed chopper???
think its time spore go build their own attack choppers.
everyone can then go become an attack chopper pilot as the choppers will be only $5million each without weapons.
lets breakdown the cost:
fuselage manufacturing using present mass production methods=$100,000 composite materials and other materials.
aircraft cockpit windscreen armoured slits solely for combat purpose=$20,000
computer systems, radiocomms and various touch screen displays= $300,000
advanced control systems and software programs= $10,000
hydraulic systems=$50,000
tail rotor systems=$30,000
main rotor n rotor blades= $100,000
engine= $300,000
screws others misc=$$10,000
labour cost to build aircraft per year=$500,000
total cost of unpainted aircraft =$2.5million
Stop spouting rubbish and pulling out numbers from thin air.
Have you landed a chopper with its engine running before? If you haven't, don't even talk about situations where the engines have failed and how they should have landed in one piece.
Go wiki up what autorotation and figure out where the nose of the Apache was pointed before trying to attribute the tailstrike to poor piloting.
No point pointing fingers without any concete evidents.
Let's wait for the investigation results, probably might takes month.
all i know is pilot landed and chopper broke into 2 pieces.so best spore go build its own aircraft.like that might as well dont autorotate......just attach a few parachutes on aircraft itself....save all teh trouble of autorotation.
i spout out figures because i know that figure and how much it should cost.
no its also due to poor piloting.. not one single party is at fault but rather 2..thats whay they should have computers take over autorotation.if u wanna do caveman style autorotation...go ahead.be my guest.....dun expect a 21 gun salute all the time.
but definitely its also pilot poor autorotation skills.pilot too stupid n scared.i say he pointed the chopper nose too high when it hit the tail.....thats what i mean....pilot not cool enough and didnt do it right.dont they have something to indicate nose angle????if it landed correctly chopper shouldnt have any "battle" damages.
pilot verdict: FAIL WITH FLYING COLOURS
IF HUMANS CANTDO IT EASILY...REPLACE THEM WITH EFFECTIVE AND EFFICIENT MACHINES.THERE IS NO PLACE FOR SECOND BEST IN A WAR.
everything is simple.......if they knew what they were doing.what they did in autorotion is wrong......everyone in the internet age knows that.they had enough power to keep them afloat in the air for so long .....but not enough power in their brains to level helicopter as it should .thats not how its done really by landing tail first....why dont they land nose first and kill themselves first...that way they would do a favourr of reducing unnecessary manpower salary in MINDEF!!!???it should land on on landing gears n not first on tail!
the tail isnt meant for landing !!!if thats the case.....why dont he wear his pilot helmet the other way round back to front instead!!!!
even a kid playing computer games today knows its also pilot error as well.
yup....i checked autorotation wiki......it is obvious pilot was green horn recruit.
pilot will have to fry kuay teow for next job....and maintenance people will answer why they cant get best quality hums for pilot.
Gentlemen. Do Not Feed the Trolls.
Didn't know that we have ace chopper pilots in this forum.

Luckily it wasn't a spaceship, this thread would be flooded.
Guys, good thing that the blade did not snap or fly out...that will definately caused fatal injuries to pple or damage to the area.
Wow.....

a cat looking at window is better than a pilot who doesnt know if hes coming or going!
No other questions to ask in parliament, so ask about helicopter crash landing.
Good to ask lar. Cos definitely there are people who are concerned. At least this shows the MPs are working. Unfortunately, its only one question and I think the MPs have to "scissors paper stone" to decide who will get to ask.

And also a set of answers is already on hand, just ask the questions given to whoever going to ask in the parliament.

sigh....nobody ask....
