Not everything Patton said was right, dragg, but this quote certainly is.
Your job is in fact not to die for your country.
Sure, if your happen to crash into the other guy and take him out, you might get a posthumous medal and a pint raised in your name, but you would equally would have done your job if you had taken the other guy out while still staying alive.
Even better, if you take yourself out without killing any of the other side's guys, all you've done is reduce your own manpower for zero gain.
So yeah, whichever way you cut it, Patton was right.

I find it even more disturbing that you would cheer the killing of the guys who are trying to stop your grandmother from being raped and your grandfather from being strung up and gutted. How easily we forget.
Sure sure, there's always going to be the occasional poor bastard who's on the wrong side of the line at the wrong time, and rest assured we'll sheda tear for him, but in sum, given what the Nips did from 1933 to 1945, I wouldn't have minded at all if Truman had decided to turn all of Japan into a piece of glass.

EACH of the twin towers were designed to be hit by THREE B-757 sized planes at the same time and still keep standing.
there are TONS and TONS of evidence by experts and witnesses that clearly prove the twin towers and tower 47 were all demolished !
later , George Bush that idiot also let slip by saying that ''the towers were PULLED ''
Ah, SGForums - so much fun you'll forget to take your medication!

let's not turn this into another thread about the rights and wrongs of WWII.
Did I say I am cheering for the pilots? But I do admit I feel for the pilots themselves before they met a fiery death which is totally unnecessary...

The fact that this video exists illustrates the sad reality that most Japanese only think of themselves as victims rather than perpetuators of the war and the atrocities they committed. This video is another sign of that complex. Current day Japanese suffer from some kind of amnesia, a result of a misguided education system. They can better learn from the Germans. Look, are the Germans worse off after they admitted to the truth of their past?
you realize the every war seems to be won by the GOOD guys ???
why ? becoz the winners RE-write history, that's why !
if you do serious research, the Germans were the good guys !
the bad guys were the Jewish-controlled British that instigated ungrateful Poland into genocide of Germans in Polish territory before the German invasion !
true in a certain way.
only believe the mass media 50% at the most.

don't be brainwashed by the mainstream news, brudder !
remember that picture in the newspapers and TV of a woman standing at the exact impact site of the airliner in the tower ?
if the heat was hot enough to melt steel and bring the tower down, then how come the woman can stand there and wave for help ???
USE YOUR BRAIN TO THINK...............DON'T JUST ABSORB BLINDLY !

Dragg, you're a mate and I ask this with all due respect: why not?
I read that it is due to kamikaze that japan lost its air superiority in the war as the Allies recover/retrieve their down pilots who gain valuable air combat experience and share with new pilots while the japs kept graduating novice mediocre pilots due to the kamikaze of their experience pilots.

Son, I have neither the time nor the inclination to indulge in conspiracy theories.
Fact is, right or wrong, the net result of whatever the media's doing in a roundabout way keeps Billecart-Salmon and prime rib-eyes on the table, so why would I want to mess with that?

Which in itself validates Patton's statement.
I cried when I see this, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQOlmClWyzk, Singapore Navy finally has a Transformer Fighting Ship!

so you're in the media industry lah.

because there are already enough topics on the rights and wrongs of WWII. we'll be running around in circles if we do it again.

If your level of ability is limited to seeing things in simple cause-and-effect relationships, I won't overload you with the way the real world works, son.

I see your point, but context is critical in how we view the acts os the protagonists, is it not?

ha ha ha...... : )
Funny how the Japanese have people here to do their defending for them.
i wonder who will be the good guys in the history books if the Aliies had lost.............
Patton himself said that the Americans have been fighting the wrong people and should have fought the Russians instead !

I am the moderator of this forum, not the "wise old owl" of the forum. I have no obligations to come up with the most balanced argument to the topics of discussion on the forums as a moderator. I do have obligations to address discussions that have become inflammatory in nature.
I am so "glad" that there are so many "experts" in history willing to make comments without arguments and references against the facts and viewpoints that have been academically studied by professors who have devoted their lives to its study. Maybe these experts should engage in more academic approaches to their views of Japan during the second world war and provide their account of Japan's role in World War 2 with good arguments and references.
its one thing to know about the topics of history, it is another thing to understand their significance and context.
by the time the Japanese Imperial air force deployed Kamikazes attack on allies fleet the Pacific Campaign had already been lost. It was a desperate attempt to slow down the advancement and will have no impact to the attack on Okinawa....
I think what is missing in the point of argument is that it reflect the ultimate abusive of power from imperial military within the civil government of Japan, and also towards its own citizens.
The blatant use of its young citizens for suicidal attack to continue to justify victory at all cost is totally in Denial of losing the War in which the Japanese military themselves declared the war against the United States. Their military leadership were Coward to the end by pushing their own young children to unnecessary dead than accept defeat.
One can also says that their arrogant and pride swallowed the Atomic bomb.
