Will MODERN Warships go back to having more guns ?

  US Navy now experimenting with rail-guns on their warships, eh ?

  how nice if all the world's warships go back to having more guns - more ''romantic'' mah !

  so these warships will need thicker armour and then more and bigger rail-guns !

  Look on the bright side, most combat ships have at least one gun. RSN mostly has the 76mm. Other navies like USN's LCS has the 57mm (eg mk-110). Some have 30mm (Mk-46). Some have phalanx. Some have 12.7mm MGs. There are several limitations with current experimental gun systems. - Recoil too heavy for heavy-weight projectiles. Gun system cannot tahan. - Guns end up firing projectiles which cost as much or more than missiles. End up missiles cheaper. - Threat from small craft make large calibre guns useless.

  there will be more guns... there is more focus on littoral (spelling warfare) and assymetric (spelling?) warfare...

   

  Instead of facing swarms of attack aircraft launching dozens of anti ship missile, the enemy is likely to be in a motor boat hiding behind a merchant ship... a gun would be more useful.

  Also, warships need a gun(s) for shore bombardment...

  rail guns got no recoil mah.............shell also light.

  wah, US can recommission the Iowas liao then Japan remake the Yamatos..........LOL........

  No such thing as no recoil. Even laser got recoil. Physics 101. The explanation of why one doesn't "see" a recoil is stated below. http://www.newton.dep.anl.gov/newton/askasci/1993/physics/PHY24.HTM

  precision will replace quantity like in Korea War and WW2.

  One precise strike is better than 50 unguided shells.
