It was reported May 2010 issue of Asian Military Review that S'pore recently purchased 1,000 units of the MARS sights.
I guess that these are issued to special units only as standard issue SAR21 do not have P rails to mount them.
Its actually april issue. Also mars sight refers to the Israeli ITL version not the ATN night vision 4x-6x zoom. The MARs is only a LAD. If bought by SAF, could probably include the tri-sight.
Cannot discount that its for resale. Could also be for the SAR-21A with the whole length picatinny rail.
Official website
The article only mentioned Spore's recent purchase of 1000 " Multipurpose Aiming Reflex Sight " & no mention was made of ATN night vision 4X -6X zoom as you mentioned. In the literature MARS is a Reflex sight and LAD.
Uncle....sigh... MARS as stated is an acronym for multi-purpose reflex sight. A lot of companies actually make MARS sights. Just wanted to state that its the Israeli ITL version that was mentioned in the article and which type you did not mention. The reflex sight is a passive aiming system whilst the laser is the active one used for night vision. For me to restate MARs is a reflex sight is repeating myself.
If you re-read my statement, the word "not" ATN (which is an example) is stated. If you still can't understand what not ATN version means, sorry can't help you. Other manufacturers include Fraser-Volpe etc.
The ITL as mentioned does not come with a built in zoom (unlike the sar-21 which was an optic 1.5 zoom) but can be coupled with a zoom eg tri-sight.
Ah Beng...sigh... ITL is marketing it's reflex sights as MARS and clearly for the knowledgable there is no need to mention ITL.
Sorry , not that you must repeat yourself , but you shud instead CORRECT yourself. What happened to the letter "A" for Aiming ? I guess it must have dropped out of your sight . Please brush up on your acronyms.
Must you repeat to the forumers what are the difference between a reflex & laser sight ? I think that our fellow forumers don't need a lesson on this.
OK, you got the ITL and ATN equipment mixed up. I forgive you.
MARS is a category of sights. Its like saying ST is marketing its SAR-21 as a bull-pup. Its a bull-pup but not the only one.
As examples since obviously I need to be even more specific than I have:
http://www.drs.com/Products/MARSIR.aspx
http://www.fraser-volpe.com/mars.php
http://www.atncorp.com/nightvision-riflescope-atnmars2x-hpt
Of course everyone markets their own as MARS sights cos that's what exactly it is. ITL is not the only manufacturer.
As to accuracy of acronym, you should know I don't deal with semantics. Stating reflex sights twice is meaningless and that's the extent of the intent behind my response.
As to insults, I don't indulge and therefore I took a day off before I addressed your post. The term "uncle" was not meant as one and if you have read it as such, my apologies.
If you read merriam webster, the term "uncle" is used as a cry of "surrender" ie self frustration rather than as an insult.
Dear WEASEL,
MARS is a category of sights.
Clearly MARS it is neither a “category “ nor generic. It is in fact a model
type or brand name of a range of sights as sold by ITL - your examples
of companies selling MARS sights below prove it.
Its like saying ST is marketing its SAR-21 as a bull-pup.
The generic term for these kinds of sights will be Reflex Sights.
They are not generically known as MARS.
It is clear to everyone is SAR-21 is a bullpup type or category type of rifle.
So, it has never been marketed by ST that “bullpup” as being a model
type or brand name.
Its a bull-pup but not the only one. You are stating the obvious.
As examples since obviously I need to be even more specific than I have:
http://www.drs.com/Products/MARSIR.aspx
This company is marketing the ITL MARS sights
http://www.fraser-volpe.com/mars.php
The reason fraser-volpe is selling MARS sights are that these are licenced
built ITL MARS sights ! If you had bothered to read the specs sheets and read their web site in detail , it is obvious that these sights are in fact ITL MARS sights.
http://www.atncorp.com/nightvision-riflescope-atnmars2x-hpt
So when are night vision scopes same as reflex sights ?
Of course everyone markets their own as MARS sights cos that's what exactly it is. ITL is not the only manufacturer.
As to accuracy of acronym, you should know I don't deal with semantics. Stating reflex sights twice is meaningless and that's the extent of the intent behind my response
You missed out “AIMING” when explaining MARS , not reflex. It is very clear why ITL chose to use the word “AIMING” . They wanted to use the acronym MARS to distinguish their sight with a brand or model name.
If they wanted a generic term, they wud have used the words Reflex Sight. But it is precisely that you don’t bother with semantics that you find yourself in all kinds of trouble trying to explain yourself.
As to insults, I don't indulge and therefore I took a day off before I addressed your post.
The term "uncle" was not meant as one and if you have read it as such, my apologies.
I never took uncle as an insult. In fact uncle is an endearing term.
If you read merriam webster, the term "uncle" is used as a cry of "surrender" ie self frustration rather than as an insult.
Wow ! I bet nobody in Singapore knew that uncle meant what you have just described !!!
Since you used it as the first word in your post , that means that you cried out in frustration & surrendered even before replying to my post !!!

Yours sincerely
PS I did not have to take a day off to reply to your post.
Okay lets, do this nicely for the sake of learning. Cos I have no idea whats a MARS now... I thought it was a chocolate candy bar.
In one sentence, give your definition of MARS:
Maybe we're all talking about the same thing?

Here's mine

lol. Nice of you to tell ATN that they’re not producing MARS sights.
It must be a revelation to them that they are not producing MARS sights.
It will indeed be a revelation that they are producing MARS reflex sights. So please prove your point by showing that they do.
You tend to make a lot of claims like how xyz is abc but don’t support it very often.
Sorry, but you are the one who has not proven anything.
I give you the opportunity to prove yourself right now. Show us that ATN is producing MARS reflex sights.
I’m sure you realised that DRS produces two versions of the MARS of which the MAR IR with an 830nm laser
http://www.drs.com/Products/MARSIR.aspx
as compared to the ITL MARS IR laser with an 850nm laser makes the DRS MARS a licensed version of the ITL MARS.
http://www.itlasers.com/PDF/mars.pdf
UNCLE !!!!!!!!! So you just admitted that DRS produces &
therefore markets licensed versions of ITL MARS , but the
difference is that it incorporate a slightly different version of
ITL’s MARS sight – by using a 830 nm versus 850 nm laser in
the original ITL MARS version.
Hey , you also conveniently left out your example on
http://www.fraser-volpe.com/mars.php
From all the above, it is crystal clear that the MARS sights
referred to above in all your examples are one and the same
MARS range of sights designed and made by ITL.
Therefore you have just proven that MARS is not a generic
term. It is really a brand / model range of sights from ITL !
Thanks a lot.
Arguing that the minute you mention mars everyone knows that its ITL is very intelligent indeed. As the word uncle, your ah beng clearly indicates how well you know what that means.
You are right about “ah beng” . I really don’t know what it is or
who it is as I cud not find it on http://www.merriam-
webster.com/dictionary/
But it had a silly ring to it and so I confess I used it in
ignorance – I guess I may not be so intelligent than you after
all.
But in all fairness, I will have to thank you for learning a new
word - Uncle !!!!!!!!
I sincerely hope it catches on in Singapore.
PS I am relaxing now taking a bite off my MARS bar for lunch.
I am very sure you know what a MARS bar is right ?
