During last Saturday's crackdown on the "red shirts", this was what they lost:
nine M16 rifles, 25 Tavor rifles, six anti-aircraft guns, 116 shields, 105 batons, 80 body armour suits.
six APCs, three Hummers
580 rubber bullet rounds, 600 anti-aircraft rounds and 8,182 M16 rifle rounds

(It is really shameful to lose six armoured vehicles to some civilian mob...And why the hell do they have AA guns with them? Whoever gets the six AA guns+600 AA gun rounds and the rifles + 8000 rounds can fu-cking start a small war man!)
Restriction is what limits the Military from winning their crack down! If they can go all out!
Trust me there will be HELL and no more Protest the next day. I heard that there will be another round of confrontation tomorrow.
Yes I know there are prohibitive Rules of Engagement for the troops, but you retreat until you abandon your vehicle and run away?(referring to the APCs and Hummers being abandoned).
short of the communist bastards like the PRC Red Guard, would you drive your APC or tank over your own countrymen?
they do not want to fight
yes.....thais seem to be able to think.....
Well, u cant win a revolution without arms and ammunitions. They did it right this time. Just need to storm an army depot next with the weapons they newly acquired.
Well, i don't even dare to go think abt Spor3 army in that situation.

WTF do they need anti-aircraft guns for?
Maybe they did not train well during peacetime.
most of the red shirt protester are from the village with little education... this is also true for lower ranking soldiers... they did not have the heart to perform an aggressive crackdown on protestors..
haiz.. all these ppl are just tools and proxies of the rich and powerful, ie.. the elites in the country.... sad..
top military officers are split on the use of force on the protestors too.. their head of the army did not want to use force on the protestors.. it was rumored that the 2nd guy in command gave the order to use force on protestors so as to please the prime minister.. the current head is gonna step down in sept.. 2nd in command is eyeing his position...he even brought in battalions that are loyal to him to carry out his instructions.. this resulted in bloodshed...
In the event of a freak election results in sp.. If the saf is called in to quell the ppl uprising.. i wonder what is gonna to happen?

The same as what the Thai army did? Retreat...

the crew just follow orders from the top people mah.................but the top people are doing the right thing !
to control such a large country with such a huge population...............an iron fist is a must................
otherwise, a small group of traitors bribed by foreigners will rally the masses against the country and if the govt falls, hundreds of millions will suffer................
same thing in Thailand, Thaksin financed his lackeys to stir up trouble and the govt is too soft............
the thai govt lacks the moral authority to crack down on the reds as they didn't punish the yellow protestors then....looks like thailand might as well split with the north going republic...

Ya... and they are huge as well...
lets see how it develops, now thai army alr warned they will respond with tear gas and live rounds in the latest report. and seriously i dun think the thai army is weak or incompetent. they are a tough bunch of fighters with good soldiering skills and definitely seen more conflict than we have in SAF. it boils down to political will and also their unwillingness to shoot their own people. both sides are thais, does it make u any happier if ur one of them and asked to shoot ur own countrymen. like any soldier, they are asked to defend their country against military threats, not act as policemen or some army contractors (mercs) who has no qualms abt shooting civillians. but think when the push comes to a shove, they will still do what is needed to limit the damage the red shirts are doing to thailand
Ai ya, talk so much for what, learn Singapore lah. No protest, can anyhow crack them, if they got > 1000 people like a mini Chingay parade, then can just use the QX cars to run over them lar (No Tanks needed yet).
Protesters are usually troublemakers, hence they must be dealt harshly. (Better than loses 6 AA guns, lol!)
target the ring leaders enough liao.........Thaksin pay them how much, Thai govt pay them more lor.......
A few possibilities to why the Army has been somewhat ineffective so far.
1, that the Army as a whole is not interested in supporting the current PM Abhisit. This can be seen in their statement recently that said that this was a political problem that requires a political solution, hinting at the necessity for Abhisit to step down. This does not question why the Army has not pulled away from supporting Abhisit.
2. The Thai Army itself might not be united the support for the current PM. This could probably explain why there has been no attempted coup nor detracting of support for Abhisit. It is possible that some factions are still supportive of the current government (since it was the one they put into place... detracting would be like slapping themselves), while others are already disinterested but do not want to undermine Bankok's security further through a violent and high handed crackdown.
It's always good to have some pictures
