The new Korean K11 5.56 mm rifle / 20 mm grenade launcher looks like a very impressive and devastating weapon to have. It is currently being issued to front line units. Checkout the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_MdhG6bxao&feature=related

The US plans to field the XM25 around 2012. However, this will not have the 5.56 mm rifle which the X11 also fields.
The current conflict in Afghanistan & Iraq has revealed the need for infantry borne airburst weapons. It is apparent that such a weapons system will greatly increase the deadliness of an infantry sectin or squad.
It looks big a bulky and it weighs a wopping 6.1KG.
Is this weapon a replacement to the assualt rifle? As in every infantryman is to carry one?
Or is this meant to be a "M203" replacement, maybe 1 or 2 men is to armed with this and the rest armed with SAW and Assualt Rifle?
It looked very heavy.
6.1 kg is NOT considered too heavy for a squad level weapon. However, it does seem extremely bulky.
I believe that the Koreans use this as a complement to a M203 type weapon.
The Koreans will deploy the K11 5.56 mm rifle / 20 mm grenade launcher for operations in Afghanistan in 2011.
It will be interesting to see how this new weapon type performs in real combat.
