No bueno.....the reason is still unknown or at least not reported or not escalating. Maybe there is a new sub that they can't detect.
Does anyone has a picture of the vessel that was sunk?
SEOUL (AFP) - – A South Korean navy ship with 104 people onboard was sunk near the North Korean border Friday after an unexplained explosion in its stern, military officials said.
South Korea's government called an emergency meeting but a presidential spokeswoman said it was still unclear whether the sinking resulted from a clash with North Korea.
A South Korean naval vessel opened fire on an unidentified object but it was later found to be a flock of birds, the joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said.
The 1,200-ton vessel sank between 9:00 p.m. (1200 GMT) and 10:00 p.m. near Baengnyeong island in the Yellow Sea. A rescue operation was underway.
A JCS spokesman said 58 crew members had so far been rescued
Could have been a North Korean torpedo or its depth charges going accidentally. Still no word on whats going on.
another false flag attack like the fake Gulf of Tonkin incident which was an excuse for US to start Vietnam War...........this Korean drama has to do with the moronic leader having kidney failure...........US probably have someone on the inside to stage a coup, etc etc
crawling the world wide web for "non-official news". the lack of korean language skill hamper the effort. lol
a photograph of the ill-fated corvette is available here.

speculations on korean military forum state that an explosion on one of the propulsion engine blewing up a hole in the engine room is likely the cause.

I was thinking it could be one of those North Korean Miget sub...with a single torpedo....sucidal mission. But i guess they have to look at the hulk.....to confirm.

the US ain't going to disrupt the cease fire agreement at this time.....when they are fully involved in the war on terror.

wow 1200 ton vessel what is the lenght of this ship? 100 meters?
Not usual. Waters there are choppy, and they have a long coastline, necessitating a high endurance corvette.
If you want oversized, you should look to the Israelis. Their Saar line of frigates are quite notorious for having too much top weight and subsequently cut back from the initial specs. Then again, their navy is at the bottom rung of the funding ladder...
hoot liao
Am listening to KBS World on this one. After all Korea is my "mother country" and I am paying special attention to this one.
KBS World is purely speculating on various scenarios. Some have been discussed here.
1. Shot down by NKorean submarine
2. Propulsion system blew up, exploding the tank of ammunition and fuel next to it
3. Hit by a floating mine
According to Korean reports, KBS World is hinting that it is scenario 2 that brought down the vessel. Due to the amazingly quick time in which the ship broke into two, heaved to its starboard side and sank. Only the tip of the vessel is above water now.
Will continue to pay close attention to its developments.
gosh KBS World devoted one full hour to the event.
damn sad, mothers crying and etc.
not to mention also, many of them were due to leave the navy/army in a matter of days.

the US no need to be militarily involved.............Nth Korea will collapse if they go to war with Sth Korea..........already US knows the people inside Nth Korea very fed up with their moronic leader and since he's in ill health, a small war will give the people the chance to revolt...........
Sth Korea will whip the Noth's ass in a war...............can the Nth Koreans even sink the warship in the 1st place with their Disco-era weapons ?.................LOL
the war on terror was a fake one............they've been bribing the taliban for a long time to keep them quiet, after all the Americans were behind the taliban in the 1st place.
if US enters the war against Nth Korea, a couple days of air strikes and it'll be all over..............no action will be made by the US.
*** also World Cup coming mah.................LOL
i read the news and this is what i gather that...since there are no hard evident the SK govt does not want to escalate this situation so the news media came out and said it does not seemed to be from NK.....
But i read in news paper one of the survivor said explosion was from outside....I am just wondering what would cause the ship to split apart from an explosion so huge ?
another inside job like 9/11 most likely...................or NK got Sunburn missiles too...........
it was a bunch of ord ns guys smoking in ammo dump room with heaps of cigarette butts from months at sea with poor maintenance.
if there was a mine then they would have detected it sonar long ago.....if it was missile....thcen it would also had been detected by radar and person on watch.
guess u wont know it until u see underwater robots doing. the recon job on corvette.
just like that time when a S'pore navy warship collided with a cargo ship and split in 2..............LOL
i bet everyone was sleeping including the captain..................radar and alarm switched off by accident..........LOL
i am just wondering...the SK Navy got to have submarine rescure capabilities....knowing that the trapped crews still have 60 hours of breathable air how could the SK navy have momentary lost track of the wreck...when the coastal region was not deep blue. And why did they drag so long to get US navy asset for help if they can't do it on their own?
sound like it is a politician ops can't blame for family members anger...
many eyebrown raise for this incident.....

If you don't know anything for nuts, you should at the very least be respectful.
Why are you telling us all these? If you have the balls, tell that to those who lost their loved ones out at sea.
Its a tribute to the damage control team that 4 and not more were lost.
u know korean guys....they dump their clothes and underwear all over the decks and smoke cigarettes everywhere....and as they were about to finish their national service....i guess one of them accidentally threw a match n lighted up fuel storage areas next to ammo dump
