Yup, notice that it depends on 'who' or 'which side' is making the documentary.

S'pore's arms.........all rip-offs from foreign products lah.............
end of the day, no point having best tank, warships, choppers, fighters, etc etc..............the ones having the best missiles will win...........and the Russians have the best.........plus much cheaper too compared to a tank or plane...........
No they are not ripoffs - just an amalgamation of the best features from foreign products
Hurray for the Russians ! If they have the best and the cheapest, the world must be beating down at their door to get hold of these weapons.
And also since having the best wins wars, the Russians are must be truly invincible. Hurray to the Russians.........or shud I say romanistas............
I think the whole russian=best meme has kinda run it's course a long time ago.
Basic economics. No $$$ No research. No new stuff.
I think Russian military R&D people also have families to feed. They aren't going to make anything terribly new and great given the shape their general economy is in.

Some Russian designers have emigrated to the West, and some venerable Russian manufacturers have absorbed Western investments - which open the vaults to many top technologies and designs.

you're too naive ...........nowadays, apart from the UK-US-Israel Axis of Evil, who's going to war......................countries know they're not going to war.............buying weapons is just a way to cement political ties and get economical favours...................
even if Russia has the best of everything by a huge margin, you'll never see countries friendly to US buying from the Russians.........and vice versa.........
the French and Swedes have so much difficulties trying to export their weapons becoz they have virtually no political clout and they're not economical powerhouses too..............
o you're too naive ...........nowadays, apart from the UK-US-Israel Axis of Evil, who's going to war......................countries know they're not going to war.............buying weapons is just a way to cement political ties and get economical favours...................
Your line of thought suggests that weapons purchases serve no purpose other than political & that countries know with 100 % certainty that they will not need weapons for war - that’s 100 % naivete.
even if Russia has the best of everything by a huge margin, you'll never see countries friendly to US buying from the Russians.........and vice versa.........
If the Russian weapon system is good, even countries friendly to the US will buy them. The Igla is a good case in point. You see , it is not always for a political purpose.
the French and Swedes have so much difficulties trying to export their weapons becoz they have virtually no political clout and they're not economical powerhouses too..............
The French and others have no difficulties exporting
weapons which are recognized to be excellent in their respective
categories.
The Swedes as a matter of policy consider it unethical
to export weapons to countries it deems
undemocratic or have poor human rights records.
In fact Sweden exports a substantial amount of
weapons to many countries worldwide. So do the French.
Clearly one does not need political clout to sell good
weapons systems.
Please study current affairs and not Roman history.
Truly , I say to you Ignorance is Bliss.
countries that buy French and Swedish weapons (few to begin with, now lagi less) are trying to ''be neutral'' so they don't buy US or Russian weapons..............the Arabs used to buy French but now US controls Iraq and most willing to attack anyone, the ragheads now buy American.
you notice very very few wars are fought by countries whereby both sides uses weapons from the same manufacturers..............
you think China, Cuba and Venezuela will buy American weapons ? or will UK and Japan buy Russian weapons ?
Contrary to your understanding of the arms market, France and Sweden are ranked among the top ten exporters of weapons world wide. Considering that Sweden is a small country it is "lagi" a tribute to the excellence of its weapons industry.
Why not China , Cuba and Venezuela buy American or UK & Japan buying Russian ? Even Russia has bought Israeli UAVs and is now considering France's Mistral class helicopter carriers. So the Russians want to cement political ties with Israel ? The simple & logical reason is that the weapons are good & thats why they are purchased.
Never say never.
Here is an example of how an old horse can still find its way to be relevant to the current fighting operation....
An upgrade Scimitar used in afghan by the UK....they must have pull it out from their storage facilities.
SAF still has some old horses too :-
AMX13, M113, AMX10, 160 mm mortar,CarlGustav84, 35 mm Oerlikon, RBS70, Rapier,F5,LeoA4,Sjoorman class subs ..............etc

Is that part of the consideration to keep it for the purposes that SG is a civilian soldier and all these old weapon kept it for old bird in case of sudden drastics needs in a relatively short period of time?

sell to garang guni also no one want mah.................and they too stingy to give to poor countries so rather they rot and rust away lor...............
if go to war, just these old weapons for suicide weapons lor..................
These old horses happen to be in good working order despite their age. Most are operational and are still in use.
When well maintained & continuously upgraded, these old horses are still very effective.
Look at the USAF's B52s - they have been around for almost 60 years.
becoz if they put more money into new post-cold war bombers , the people will cry mom and dad mah.........
as for S'pore, the old weapons still okay becoz M'sia lagi teruk mah.............maybe those M'sian tanks already have their engines stolen ?
