We now have Ukrainians serving in the army. Yes, of course, Russians too, east Europeans, and British who married our local girls, and British women who married Singapore men.
I know that there are singaporean who either born overseas or having foreign parent but their children is Singapore citizen and they served N.S.
LKY Comment sound like is more than a handful? Does anyone know the size of 1st generation ?

interesting... his parent must have migrated to SG. I recalled LKY mention in his earlier memoir about chinese perception of "Good Man don't served the Soldier" So they introduce NCC and NPCC in secondary school for national education. And i believe there are PR here would try to avoid that path....
But....if folks that migrate from central asia and other formal soviet states are open to serving N.S....that might just served the interest.
Mostly third world country immigrants.

It's hardly surprising statements like these have been disguised innocuously as an effort to convince the unsuspecting world out there. The audiences of the world may have been believed or deceived, but not the enlisted men who had slogged hard through the 2 years of their manual labours.

That is an observation rather than any political statement about PR not serving NS. In any case I have served my time including reservist. I have met foreign born SG while working in SG. But as I have said I didn't think it was a lot....but from LKY statement it sound like a whole bunch.
Not many Singaporeans are going to announce that their parents are overseas PR or overseas citizens. It doesn't even crop up in daily discussions. People aren't going to ask "are your parents Singaporeans?"
The birth rate is falling. Even in my time which was a number of years back, there were a number that were PRs (and PRs whilst in OCS and passing out from there as well).
Those who were already Singaporeans during NS, I think people generally have no idea what their parentage is.
