When there were no exercises on, I used to get up at 10.00 am, scratch my balls, have a shower to scrub off my hangover, head down to the canteen for breakfast, head back to barracks to watch TV and siam when the CSM came around. But I never got less than a full score for IPPT.
What category do I fall in?

Well, ultimately, if your family is under threat, will you pick up a weapon and fight or run away?
If the person have conscience then I believe regardless whether you are fit or not, you will put up a fight.
I am a specialist. I have men who slack, but when its time to work they work harder than me. I think the worst kind of soldier are those unmotivated to do anything.

I use to get gold. Now I can't pass. I feel ashame for not maintaining the fitness. But what do I owe this country in the first place that the women dont? It's not voluntary. Some take pride in it but I feel everone has got their right to feel resentment. Please remember we are forced into it. For good or for bad it IS a liability. It is not a choice if you decide the dedicate just one year for work or family for whatever reason there is. And down you go. Some men died running. I felt my heart bursting during after 2 years of no running.
Fail that year and there come the punisment. RT, where one of the days must be a weekend. Ohh why am I not proud being forcefully enlisted? Is that the right description for conscription? Forced into it?

you are free to give up your citizenship and thus no need serve ICT. in any case plenty of people nowadays the world over exercise, with so many women in sg and overseas running marathons for their own rewards and enjoyment no less, which makes singaporean males here whining about feeling "resentment" because of being "forced to maintain their fitness" a joke. you are free to go ahead and be a fat unfit slob and have a heart attack at 40. who cares? we're not your family members.

How do you measure the state of training and preparedness of a nation's defence force ?By studying the soldiers during their slack time, or when they are recruits during training, or when they are operationally ready and observing their professional sense of duty during their hours on station ?
Or do you measure the state of preparedness from the first blood that flow ?
