after WWII jap are not suppose to build anymore carriers and with the american sitting on the japs head, they didnt
now america suck already, suddenly the japs navy start building "helicopter destroyers" that are really carriers
remember, the new generation of japanese are taught that WWII did not happen, japan was used as a test ground for american atomic weapons, the jap public are in denial about how much assholes they were during WWII.
why build carriers if you are not planning to attack people. carriers are not needed for any defence purpose
the only use of carriers are to project offensive airpower far from your own country.

"China building military forces to possibly conquer SE Asia in 10 years time"

China couldn't even "punish" Vietnam in 1979 much less conquer anyone.
The military balance is carefully considered and a carrier is mostly useless without aircraft. Its a slow cooker approach. Get everyone used to the idea of Japan owning a carrier first. Then aircraft comes later.

Japan is at the forefront of nuke tech with Mitsubishi one of the leaders in nuke reactor construction. Japan can probably construct a nuke far quicker than north korea, if it so decides to.
Japan also has the honour of being the only foreign country to invade Singapore.

Aren't we being invaded by China now?
China has been trying to build up its own carrier wad. The Japanese are simply reminding them that they can do that anytime they want, and still possess the necessary knowledge to do so.
Besides, once they have such a ship, they would sure want to acquire the F-35. Lockheed Martin wins.

I remeber a couple of years ago, our MM then SM made a statement in his interview about his opinion of Japanese participating in peacekeeping efforts in Iraq. "Is the same as giving a drunkard a piece of alcholic chocolate".
