Anyone can tell me if SAF's Ford Everests in their current configuration are capable of mounting pintle mounted GPMGs or other crew served weapons for purposes of self defence if and when the need arises ?
With windows all round , there seems to be no means of immediately returning fire with small arms from the vehicle in scenarios when vehicle is attacked.
Last time the old old land rovers can mount weapons or not?
Old Land Rovers had open sides.

saw a few learners driving saf dark green Ford Everest around the roads of the saf driving school at kaki bukit.
anyway, is the saf Ford Everest auto or manual?
I don't see why not. I think ISAF have Toyotas with door gunners.
IMHO, the Ford Everest, right idea, bad implementation.
You can get Toyota parts any where in the world. The same cannot be said for Ford.
Yup anywhere including Kabul. I read Toyota Hilux are really popular as it really keeps going.
I don't work for Toyota or its agents.

Whats ISAF ?
Unless you remove the side panels ( provided they can be removed in the 1st place ) , you can't have door gunners on currently configured FORD Everest.
My personal opinion is that these kinds of vehicles shud not be air con and shud have open sides and also a pintle mounted / capable roof on the cab side. You can't even attempt to point a rifle out of the vehicle in this configuration. This is ok only of the vehicle is used in peacetime.
I have travelled with my friend in Thailand in an Everest. He had it for 6 years and he said that it was a very tough & reliable vehicle. He uses it to travel long distances in Thailand. Remember that FORD pickups in USA have a reputation for toughness & reliablility.
ISAF? Google it.
Toyota with door gunners. some picts with roof gunner. Note rings!

looks cram and heavy for the pick up. Japanese made car suspension are softer.
I thought that Uncle Sam already decided on Mine Resistant ambush protected trucks. Very soon there will be plenty of 2nd hand Humvee on sales.....won't that be a more comprehensive solution?

Really, you got to be kidding , International Sailing Federation ( ISAF ) uses Toyotas with door gunners for sailing ? They shud'nt be sailing so close to Somali waters in the first place.
Good photos. Hope that our Everests can also mount those door guns.
Also, they will need to have roof openings for the roof gunners.
Also , many of the vehicles have open decks at the back
Looks like our Everests will need a lot of reconfiguration to be able to beat off attacks when in a peacekeeping scenario or warzone.
Not sailing lah.

to be honest, i think our everest will be thoroughly screwed if it even encounters an AP mine.
probably enough to flip and overturn it.
They are mean as taxis. Using the Explorers and the uparmored trucks is a terrible idea. Just look north. Plenty of examples.

Talk about Flip and Overturn. I like to share this persona eye witness account :
I have personally saw 2 guys standing behind a Toyota pick up; and the Pick up was smash on the side by a on coming Tour bus. So the toyota truck was push on.
The 2 guys fell off the Toyota, and was crushed by the Toyota pick up from the side and continue to roll over by the tour bus.
My car was going opposite direction....So i saw it all.
A well aimed stone thrown at an Everest will probably be enough to stop it dead in its tracks let alone an AP mine or a charging bus.
If a commercial 4 X 4 is used by the military, the minimum is that it shud be configured / modified with items such as beefed up suspension, roll over bar, seal sealing fuel tank , roof hatch with provision for pintle mounted MG , open sides in the rear cab...............................................etc.
Personally , it looks like the Everest was purchased by people with a civilian mentality - they had comfort and cost in mind rather than its utility as a army vehicle.
LOL, this is ford that the bought, not some Chery vehicle. It would probably take more than a stone. IF ST is the maintainence contract for these Everests, i guess they would have been beefed up somewhere, somwhat ... ...
And that brings me to another point, the number of Everests bought is not enuff to replace every defender 1 for 1, currently. Which probably, there might be something coming along the way, maybe???
A large well aimed stone thrown at the driver's side of the windscreen will actually do the trick. Bullets of course will be better.
But if one had a gunner with a pintle mounted GPMG sticking out from the roof from the Everest it will be at least a deterrent to a wud-be stone thrower or wud-be shooter.
I do not know if they have beefed up the Everest but I am guessing that they have not except that they have placed roof racks & other stores securing devices. Anyone can say if the SAF Everests have been beefed up and in what areas ?
Hi Sepecat
Argree maybe thay want Cheap, Good & Big.

GMPG against stone thrower. R u sure the soldier can pull the trigger?
Yes, if your crew's life is being threatened.
Check this link about. Think this is as bad a** as it can get while keeping the doors and windows.
12.7mm in the rear and a 7.62 in the front. I think on pic has a AGL.

Nice pics. But all the weapons except the MG mounted right at the back are impractical.
You will need to sacrifice the comfort of air conditioning when firing the MG mounted on passenger side ; also your arc of fire is extremely limited & how on earth are you going to fire & operate the MG while seated on the passenger side !

Excessive use of force.
Agreed , one effectively & practically mounted MG is all that is required for a non armored 4 X 4. But looks like our SAF Everests cannot even get this installed as it is now.
