M113 ULTRA "wedge"

  Does someone know what the wedge-like attachment added to the front our M113 Ultras are for? I'm guessing it's some sort of wave-screen for water ops?

  It's a trim-vane and is part of the flotation system that keeps water from flowing over the front of the vehicle during water operation. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ySQrvsn9M0E

  This M113 Ultra is also for amphibious operations.More M113's are to be bought by the Singaporean Army to boost the armored

  command necessary for it's defense to maintain the superiority and advantage of Singapore's army over other countries in ASEAN.

  • M113A2 Ultra IFV - Originally an M113A1, upgraded to A2 standard and modernised by Singapore with Cupola mounted 40mm AGL/0.5-inch HMG twin weapon station, or the Rafael Overhead Weapon Station with M242 Bushmaster 25 mm cannons plus improved armour. Used by the Singapore Army^[5].
  • M113A2 Ultra Mechanised Igla - same as the above but armed with 4 ready to fire Igla SAMs and are configured for the role of short range air defense (SHORAD). The Integrated fire unit (IFU) is equipped with an advance fire control radar while the Weapon fire unit (WFU) version is radarless but can be cued by the fire control radar of the former^[6]. Used by the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF).

  Yup. They are doing up M113X1 Configuration. Experimental. It's about mounting a short range ground to ground missile launcher tubes and 120mm Mortar tubes onto the M113. On top of that the base of the chasis consists of a new VWT engine, (Vertical Water Thrust) that emits over 3 tons of thrust down into the water to provide stability, thus enable launching of the missiles and firing artillery shells while in the middle of the sea.
