Hi, just wondering if anyone catches the Tuesday 11pm show on Channel 11 of SCV, "Carrier". It's a long series on the life of the sailors and pilots on board the USS Nimitz. It's a pretty interesting show that features the microsystem of 3000 lives on the carrier.
One of the Black Aces (F-18 super hornet wing) pilot is pretty cute as well..
Although the crew is very young, they seem to be doing a very professional job & I guess they have to since they get deployed in a war zone.
i like the part where the F/A-18 pilots had to land on the pitching deck. imagine how harrowing it would be when you approach the carrier thinking the deck is level, then it suddenly pitches up due to the waves.
a sudden wall of gray steel in front of you leaving no space to pull up. scary stuff.
I think the series aimed to show the sacrifice of the sailors and airmen of the Navy who "protect" the country. They often interview sailors about their worries...usually its about being far away from the families for long stretches of time up to 6 months or more. Many also worry about their girlfriends and wives running away.

Wonder if he managed to hold all the spillage together - did he use adult pampers ?
I don't think so... It's definitely gonna be one messy flight suit.

I remember watching a history channel documentary about the battle of the philippines sea not long ago. the america commander received a report on the japanese task force's location at 4pm and he agonized over the decision whether to seize the chance to attack the japs. the downside was that many of his pilots had little or no experience in night carrier landings.
in the end, he ordered the attack. many of his pilots could not find their way home after the attack and expended all their fuel before crashing into the sea.
as the seconds ticked by he ordered his entire task force to turn on their search lights so that the returning pilots could see them, against the risk of being detected by enemies
some others managed to make their way back but failed to make the landing.
well...those who managed to land safely found that almost all of them had landed on the wrong carriers in the mass confusion.
