What are your wish?
This is official--
''As a policy, MINDEF only buys
what we need, and what is most cost-effective. We extend the life of
our equipment by maintaining them well and upgrading, where possible.
The 18 year-old Missile Corvettes will embark on a Life Extension
Programme so that they can continue to contribute effectively for many
more years. When we do need to make a purchase, we do not always buy
the latest model. Our AMX-13 tanks were bought secondhand 40 years ago
and upgraded to SM-1s 20 years ago. Now that the SM-1s can no longer
be
further upgraded to meet our needs, we have bought second-hand Leopard
tanks to replace them. In fact, quite a number of major equipment is
second-hand, although Members may not recognise them. Our KC-135 aerial
tankers, some of our C-130s, and submarines were also bought
second-hand. And these are periodically upgraded with modern systems.''EOQ

u can see the a rough summary of SG naval fire powers
and fill in your wishes.
Our resources is very limited.Pl dunt put too expensive and too advanced
stuff.I want ready, reliable and trusted technology, not future technology
which turn out to be a white elephant.
I know many people, incl many Singaporeans, will laugh at this 600 tons
boats.Nvm.This small boat can deter threats from air, surface and
under water.Israel also use this size of boats lah.
Cheap and good!!

this is wishes thread right ?
i want the missile corvette to be fusion reactor powered, have onboard F22 raptors, F35 and PAK-FA, have 1000 VLS capable of launching all known missile platforms like from tomahawk, SM3 to Aster 30. i want the missile corvette to be able to launch and support USVs, submarines, covert ops operators., have navalized gunships like the apache and room to carry 100 utility/ASW helicopters.
and most importantly, have a lionnoisy bullshit termination button.
push the button and lionnoisy vaporises (not high tech, i know how to implement)
like this is worth a damn, lionnoisy is really asking for it.
I think sonar is one area the RSN may look at. The original Thomson-sintra sonar is a bit short-legged.
The captas nano VDS sonar is a possible solution that removes the need for the hull mounted sonar.(saves space). The long range detection capability for littoral waters is something that may suit RSN requirements.

The barak-1 is also getting dated (ie shelf life expiry). Might be a good time to update it.
Electronics wise, RSN'd probably insert networking capabilities to ensure that onboards sensors integrate with existing 3G network architecture. Radars-wise, I dun think there will be changes unless the radar pic cannot be integrated.

weasel ! dont indulge him. he'd just drag this thread into one of the very long "singapore-rah rah" "best in galaxy, whatever we do, we cant do it wrong" hubris-fuelled blind rhethorical garbage spewing fest.
isnt the misile corvette a little on the small side ? the small displacement limits what weapons we can mount on it.
As far as I understand, forum is open to everyone. So whilst I may disagree with what he posts (or ignore it as my right), I'll defend his right to post even if its only garbage.
Captas nano sonar is designed specially for small vessels (as low as 400 tonnes), so no issue for MCVs... VT-1 is one of the possible options for SAMs, if a replacement is considered.

we should go for quality, not quantity in upgrading.
Thats better sensors and weapons---better detections/tracking/locking,
longer range and more accurate.
In term of naval launchers.,we are on par with Big countries.
Of course,u will tell me we are in poorer quality.I cant answer u lah.
At least, the numbers can scare lah ha ha.
Performances of any sensors and weapons depend on 3 M's
machine-----the outcome of designed performances,reliability,
men--training,knowledge,morale,discipline,....
maintenances---routine maintenance,repairs,overhauls
There is no point u are promised a future platform but never declared operational!!

i see. interesting.
i dont know much about naval vessels, but i dont think the upgrades are going to be extensive. The age of the missile corvette is going to be a significant handicap. think they have at best another 10-12 years of service life left in them ? by then, they'd be near a good 30 years old. the SEA WOLF class served for 33 years. doubt this platform can last that long in a region with a constantly evolving threat matrix.
maybe a dedicated ASW version of our frigate ? perhaps slightly less in tonnage but carrying more of the blackshark torpedos, and a secondary function of surface to surface warfare.
im thinking the upgrades will be more to overhaul the combat management systems and to fit them within the IK2C network.
I respect your opinion. but having a right to free speech dosent mean a right to spout garbage. garbage should be treated as garbage.
this article is very informatic.

I think the integration into the network picture will go without a doubt unless they don't plan on soldiering this series of corvettes on for another 10 years.
A good idea would to somehow incorporate turret-launched aster's as well.
this is damn interesting and SG shall head for this direction-----
over delivered.

High Tech on the High Seas |
According to a cynical modern proverb, 'It is a corvette when you ask the Treasury for money, a frigate when it is launched, a destroyer when it enters service, a cruiser when it goes to war, but only a corvette if it gets sunk'. |

Yup, personally, I'd prefer an area defence kind of stuff eg barak-8 or aster. However, I agree with sgstars' view that space is kinda premium onboard the corvettes. Who knows..., maybe the guys at DSO/DSTA might have something up their sleeves.
I'd be happy to see a navalized spyder- python5/derby system!
Come to think of it, the Spyder system is actually quite compact and might be suitable for navalization. Integrating the Elta-radar into the mast, then the launcher (which fits on a truck chassis, should be able to fit on a MCV), and the CCU integration into the MCV's CIC.
i like that phrase "cost effective". but its becoming stale hearing it too often. the mindef spokesperson should invest in a thesaurus. maybe we can hear other artful descriptions for "cheap".

how about stuff like ?
we believe that the XXXX product will allow <insert SAF organisation/body here> an improved fighting capability, increased integration with other 3G SAF NCW assets and represent a far more insert following options here and allow the SAF to maintain our strong deterrent posture, demonstrate our commitment to the security of our nation and make potential aggressors think twice about attacking singapore.
1) budget friendly
2) fiscal prudence
3) combat effective while saving costs
4) improved lethality while being more efficient
5) act as a force multiplier without mutiplying costs
6) quantum leap in capabilities for a fraction of the cost
7) reasonable explanation of why you are paying an extra 2% in gst
8) fiscal management strategy
9) no budget ovverun
10) every dollar of your tax paid, made worthwhile
nevermind.
i'm thinking more in the lines of "overtly economical" or "modestly valued".
