Australia's Air Warfare Destroyer, Evolved Design
The stepped design is very unique.pl share your view.
In the no.5 photo(wording--Australia's AWD),we can see VLS cells just in front of a gun.In this config,u canNOT fire the gun when u fire the VLS.Right?
I think the guns are the'' Very Short Range Self Defense.2 Close In Weapon
Fore and Aft''pl see No.1 photo. If a missile is heading to u but at the same
time,u have to fire your VL?Which one shall u fire first,
VL or the gun?To hit first or to strike a selk defense first?
Are there any reasons that oz must arrange in this way?
What are the pro and con of this config?
Is there a better design and what are the cost, time and technology
involved for a better design,if any?

Navantia S.A. has awarded Gibbs & Cox, Inc. an engineering services contract to support Navantia’s design of the Australian Air Warfare Destroyer. A multidisciplinary team from our Engineering Services Group will take part in a one-year assignment as integral members of Navantia’s Engineering Delegation.

The AWD web site has not been updated.
It is great they remove the 'plyon' in the old design!!

I think it is a good question in Staff Colleage in Oz ADF!!
Besides the two close defense guns positioned behind VL,
i have dunt undestand
1.why there is no stabilizers on the hull
2.Why they expose so many stuff,ie not try to reduce RCS
(few cables hanging,RHIB not concealed ,torpedo launchers exposed etc)
3.why the radars are traditional type?( I know Agies equipped)

Like LCS,Oz just dunt think they need to be stealth.
by putting the VL's in front of close range defense guns in Fore and Aft ,
oz get the risks of shooting her missiles by their own guns!!

The close range defense guns also just behind VL!!Then all the 48 VL
are grouped together~!~!
I don't believe this is the version the Hobart class will be based on. RAN chose the Spainish F100 design instead. This was based on the Burke class DDG design.
Below is a better illustration of the AWD:
