Read in ST that so many hostages died in the line of fire. One commando was quoted as saying it was pitch dark inside and they just fired at whatever enemy fire they saw. What if there was hostage human shield in front of the terrorist?
Why no negotiation in the first place?? These militants were fighting for their Kashmiri bros and sis, they want the Indian Army to stop harassing them...no room for negotiation at all?
And also all 5 Israeli hostages died when their building were stormed by commandos.

They are smart. But they are even more desparate to end the situation quickly. It also looks like they did not have a well thought out plan. Probably this was due to complete lack of intelligence. On the other hand , the terrorists were all very well prepared & killed anyone in sight - I dont think one can negotiate with these guys.

It seems strange to me that the Indian govt wants to hold onto Kashmir.
I mean what strategic significance is Kashmir to India? anyone? -

those terrorists seemed to be well trained, i've seen pics of a suspected terrorist holding a rifle with unmistaken trigger disipline. it looks almost like an amphibious commando raid by any country's military,

Mumbai is the financial capital of India, even if the airport closed, people will still find their way there for business and otherwise. NYC didnt close down after 9/11 as well.same thing here.

if you start negociate with terrorist and they walk away. the next terrorist target will be much bigger.

The facts that the terrorist taken over multiple hotels. are going to be urgly from this onset. nobody is going to walk out of this incident pretty especially for the indian govt.
I am only surprise they took this long.
The Russian would have pull out everything including gas. They are willing to take the risk of killing percentage of the hostage to get to the terrorist.

then I can't resist posting this ...
something stuck me about this picture when I saw it, first in the BBC, then in the new york times ...
This indian commando chappy has an interesting posture with his MP5 ... looks like he's aiming a water pistol at songkran instead of an MP 5 in a hostage crisis, caption says he's firing at suspected terrorists (note the finger on the trigger)

maybe he knows something we don't, maybe he's got one of those gun mounted camera sight thingy mounted on his MP 5 (doesn't look like it) .... maybe it's bollywood style, or he's been watching too many bad gangsta movies ... but I don't know what he's hoping to hit with that posture ... and who taught him to shoot like that .... and with live hostages around, that should border on the criminal, instead of farcial ....
or maybe .... he's been studying infantry tactics from the liberian civil war

Apparently he didn't see your pictures.
IMO, the Indians could have handled this better if they had the capability to.
