Looks like our guys there are issued with both SAR-21 and a pistol sidearm.
Kudos to all our SAF bros involved in Afghanistan!
Hmmm, may i ask, wad are our troops doing there in a war tht is not ours?
look at the links and make a guess
We are not there to fight, but to aid in reconstruction efforts.
=)
Ahh. Ok. thanks. . Jiayou!
This camo looks way better than the newly revised peppermint green.

Yup. But in that kind of environment is bo pian must be armed one. Good job to our combat engineers! I wish them to be safe throughout their stay..
Anyway, any idea why the left arm patch says ISAF? what does it stand for?

export version of SAF
International SAF.
hahaha... kidding.
i think it means the International Security Assistance Force
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Security_Assistance_Force
http://www.nato.int/issues/isaf/index.html
interestingly enough, its a NATO-led force. but the wiki entry is wrong about SAF presence. any patrotic soul wants to correct this misrepresentation ?

I know this guy. He is LTC James Tan. He is a CO at ATI ACTC. Sungei gedong camp.
right ... and you just made him a potential target for some nutjobs who doesn't like us helping out there ......
ops sec dude .... we don't need all the details .....
Fatum is right. While the images are Opsec cleared, please do not identify our lads who are doing a job in an hostile environment.

Our presence there is for non-combat medical and reconstruction efforts, working with ISAF. NATO is just one component of ISAF.

Suck thumb, Mindef posted up pictures of him without blurring his name-tag.
Can't fault shinkansen there...

eh ?
i know about ISAF and our mission. but the thing that surprised me was NATO being the leader of ISAF. plus IIRC, the americans have another 16-20k troops that arent under NATO command in afghanistan as well.
its just the NATO website suggests that Nato has leadership over ISAF. thats what i meant.
maybe shouldnt have lumped the part about the wiki statement. wiki is saying we got no troops in there. seperate ideas

a name tag is just that ..... giving your name's part of the geneva convention in any case .....
but not your appointment or where to find you ....
true, there's a lot of info people can get from open source stuff, but we shouldn't help things along ...
non-combat medical and reconstruction efforts....no opsec...trust me. Infact they (the afgan, regardless if they are taliban or not) see medical troops like our team, like angel fall from the sky. I tell you if anyone even dare touch our medical troops there those men are going to pay for it. Not even the taliban willing to risk it.
i think that depend on who.....if it is a foreign fighter or a cell leader they might look at it differently vs a resident Taliban who just want to fight off westerner. They have different motivation.

this discussion is not going to go anywhere since the mod's already indicated where he stands ...
but I think that "they" see "medical troops like our team like angel fall from the sky" (sic), is really a bit too much of hyperbole
if that's the case, our chaps needn't have bothered with side arms and assault weapons would they ? ...
and the "they" in my mind, doesn't just include the talibans, or even just the afghans ... alone ... there are plenty of elements in our region who doesn't like us being in Iraq and afghanistan too ....
people may think I'm a being anal over what seems to be a non issue, but I do not think we should be so complacent over something so potentially sensitive like deployments to afghanistan ....
deployment of medic and engineers!
like our experience in timor leste, the local will protect any combat engineers and medic ... im not saying they shouldnt wield weapon at all. what i meant is humanitarian job doesnt have a strict opsec unlike combat op.

soooooooooooooooldiers ........... from a country that is a known al qaeda target, one of the few friends of Israel in the region, and host to the only long term US military detachments in south east asia ....
but whatever floats your boat dude ....

Yeah but in this case, Mindef has already identified him. And the Taliban or Al Qaeda sure ain't gonna ambush him outside Sungei Gedong.
But hey, good point to bring up. Becareful when posting about unit references. Some units are not supposed to exist. Not in the case of ATI though.. =D
Off topic...realised ATC's name changed to ATI for some unknown reason, the logo used to look quite good until they change that to some green spaceman...anyone shared the same sentiment as me?
singapore wants to be a member of NATO......
Nah.
Are our troops still in East Timor? The last time i heard the SPF is still sending people over.
