In the past 2 days, MY Bernama and NST reports that replacement for the Condor and Sibmas vehicles will only be made in the 10th MY plan.
The report also indicates that some of the Condor and Sibmas armoured vehicles will be refurbished, while the rest would be used for spare parts.
The above measure was hinted by the army chief in an earlier NST report on 1 March 2008.
Janes had also reported in Dec 2006 that half of the Sibmas fleet was cannibalised to maintain a remaining 88 fire support vehicles in service. The Malaysian army purchased 162 Sibmas fire support vehicles armed with and a further 24 armoured recovery vehicles in 1984. The Sibmas is armed with the 90mm Cockerill Mk 3 gun.
459 UR-425 Condors were purchased in 1981. 150 has been upgraded. 32 Condors in 19 RMR saw service in Somalia and reportedly lost 4 units in the battle of Mogadishu.
