Er. Good idea, in a way, but I'm buying a ticket to the moon first.:D
In any case. The Georgians were probably hoping for a quick victory against the Ossetian guerillas. What with their combat experience in Chechnya and Iraq, and the global distraction in the form of the Olympics, I would suppose they were expecting an easy victory. The Georgian Army's small, but US-trained and well-equipped, so it ain't too bad. They aren't going to just get overwhelmed by the Russian Bear.
The Georgians, though outnumbered, in the shorter term have several advantages. They are not badly equipped. The former Soviet T72, for example, their main battle tank, is a reasonable match for the Russians' T90. The army has been American-trained, and increasingly American-equipped, for the past 10 years, and strongly focused on Nato admission: there will be some capable commanders and staff officers, therefore.
What they didn't reckon on was Russia getting involved so quickly in such a massive way...I suppose they have the advantage of suprise and short supply lines, compared to the Russians who have to cart any equipment they want to use all the way down south. (No wonder they're depending on air power.) Still, the longer the war takes, the more troops Russia can pour in. That's one reason why they're 'withdrawing'. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/7552012.stm)
NATO and the UN aren't going to get involved in this area too...before this half the world hadn't even heard of South Ossetia. Also I don't think the USA is going to provoke Russia by interfering. It'd be like them telling us that Pedra Branca belonged to M'sia... :)There will be calls for peace, certainly, but it's not Africa or Afghanistan here...this is Europe. Nobody's going to get involved here.
So, after all that spamming, my personal view is that Georgia is gonna have to stop fighting soon. They've already been kicked out of the capital of South Ossetia. Every hour that passes without them accomplishing whatever they wanted to accomplish is another hour that Russia can use throw more forces against them. Also, no-one's coming to help.
Let's hope Georgia can hold out for a while more. This'll prove that small states like us can resist big superpowers: a way to to signal to the big boys not to get too cocky and mess with us.
Just cheer for the underdog lah.
There is no way Georgia can hold russia without western help.
Unfortunately, the help wont come. Unless russia is stupid enough to go all the way to tiblisi.
btw, the georgian president is one interesting character.
Once KGB, always KGB!
typical russian behavior, thinking its still the cold war era... anyway stupid of Georgia to invade without air superiority, a blitzkreig gone kaput...
russia is just felxing its muscles..trying to show the world its still a "superpower" even though it isnt of they take over the whole country obviously the UN will be on their backs.thats when the US will have the perfect excuse to go to war AGAIN

nah, the US still got its mind on Iran and Iraq/Afghanistan. it still need Russia's backing to put pressure on Iran nuclear dreams. I say Georgia would be the losing side in this round...

yeah i think you can send Poh Ah Pek over there to fight against American Hegemony
Ruskies are in Georgia proper.
The Georgians were stupid.
They believed the lies of NATO and the US. They believed the West would support them.
The fact is NATO and the US will not shed blood for some remote ex-Soviet state. The West cannot take heavy casualties, unlike Russia.
Georgian tank burns
Civilian casualty after Russian air raid

Let's hope the Singapore leaders can see through the unreliability of the USA as an ally. Let's hope Singapore is not as stupid as Georgia as to trust the West. Singapore must stand on her own. Trust no one except yourself. Even China will not help even if there are thousands of Foreign Talent from China working in Singapore and the majority population is 75% ethnic Chinese.
Trust only your own weapon. And when we fight, we fight to kill and destroy permanently. We cannot afford a Gaza Strip situation.
Can all the Singapore Nationalists please STFU?
Stop turning a war into something to put forward your own retarded agendas.
Anyways, most people don't realise it but this HAS the potential to turn into WW3. Lets hope it won't, but you can start to see Russia's real motivations. Georgia could very well be an object lession to that OTHER NATO aspirant, Ukraine.

i am not sure SG would be qualify to make that statement. we haven;t seen any action our military leaders assume training will be enough for SAF.

Aww...
Sigh. The irony... nice to see that their shooters (of all sports) are hugging

now they do change the political wing.
The reality is that the ceasefire isn't being observed. Russian tanks were in Gori a few hours ago, and now they're heading for Tbilisi.
but nato and the EU's not doing anything except talking ....
looks like we still won't see super flankers against typhoons and rafales anytime soon ...
