Georgian President is heavily USA backed. Georgia is the 3rd largest contributer to the US-led coalition forces in Iraq, and USA have been training and supplying the Georgian military since 2002. Georgia's President previously worked for the United States Attorney General's Office, and has a fellowship from the United States State Department. USA has already officially stated that it backs Georgian sovereignity.

this war is going to be urgly, and tricky.
Ironically this Olypmics is so filled with protest and now a war.
Nato and the US are stretch so looks like the Russian are set to roll its tank in that region. The rest of the ethnic groups in the other region would have to twice if they wish to break away from Georgia.

We've been following this war here thru both western media (BBC) and Russian media (Russia Today). It's interesting to be able to follow a war from the perspective of both sides.

Thanks for the correction. As both sides use the same equipment, you can appreciate that identifying whose burning hulks those are or whose planes are in the sky from some picture taken from afar isn't easy.
Pic 1 seems to have been identified by people on military photos as being Russian due to the camo scheme, I personally am unsure, and BBC identified them as Georgian.
Pic 4, im not sure. both BBC and Russia Today are claiming them to be Georgian.

saw some Georgian soldiers in the news kitted with MARPAT and M4 rifles. they got a mix of equipment: Russian guns, american stuff and G36 rifles used by special forces i think

As for the topic discussed, imo it is a Russian retailation to the Western-backed independence of ex-Sebian Kosovo.
I wonder how the EU and USA are going to deal with this similar situation? By breaking away Kosovo from Sebia, they have no reason to deny Ossiatia desire to join Russia.

Looks like Russia is determine to change the entire regime in response to getting the US and Nato Missile defense shield out of Russia southern territory.
Unless Nato risk starting a new front which i don;t think so. There is nothing u can do at UN level nor military front other than equipment aids.
We will see the onslaught from the news. What is essential and tricky is how the Iran Nuke issue is going to play out in view of the current new hot spot.

I've seen pictures of Geogia attack SO labeled as russia attacking geogia.
