Yeah i think that planes that can take off vertically are more beneficial for our country due to the constrains in land space. The financial aspect should not be a large problem to the military of SG. Those little pontoons maybe useful as well, they are small and have a low IR signature if i'm not wrong, thus in the worst-case scenario that all airfields in SG can't be used, maybe we could rely on a more advanced version of those.
We already have those. They can take off vertically, land vertically, fight on land, air, sea and space! Just that they are damn top secret and classifiedest to the maximumest of security clearances.
