This is alot better than others...
Same as the old number 4, officer and warrant rank on the shoulders, specialists/men on the sleeves what. No difference. Why are you questioning it now?
Why follow old number 4 ? Isnt the new uniform about improvements ? If you are captured , better not be so obvious as senior ranking officer , spec ops personnel etc.
Best is that the uniform does not distinguish you from an officer or private.
SAR21 GL? in service already?

Wayang ah wayang ah wayang wayang oi... kinda like those pictures of our 3G ACM using all the SAR-21 MMS with all the advanced nic nacks but in reality our front line troops don't even have a sniff of it.
If it actually being put into service is, it's about time actually, it's a change that should have taken place like NINE years ago.

it looks front heavy to me. Yep in some sense you are right.. most of the nice kit are always in some future force presentation or something like that, but the guys up in the field dont always get the new stuff.
Many reservist units are still using M-16 and I believe even some active units too. Saw pics from the recent arty exercise in NZ and they were still using M-16. This despite the SAR-21 being hailed as the standard SAF weapon. I wonder if ever we will see every single unit using SAR-21.
But I guess it takes time to implement things esp if you're talking about equipment. M'sia hasn't even replaced all its M16s with the Steyr and they are already planning to phase out the Steyr in favour of the M4. So there you go.
Anyway I doubt you will see every single soldier (including support guys like your storemen and mechanics who are out in the field) donning body armour and all that fancy gear. As it is we aren't even issued knee guards and elbow guards as part of our standard gear let alone IR goggles, GPS and all that razzle dazzle.

I heard that it is already in use at OCS -- they might be trying to follow the Americans and field new equipment at the TIs first before wider dissemination.
Man!x: It wouldn't be any more unbalanced than the M-16/M-203 combination, although it would be heavier.
sgf: Like you said, normally standardisation would take some time to occur. With the new spiral development system, though, standardisation is no longer a priority-- with new equipment being fielded every 2-3 years, various formations of the SAF will always be in flux and the SAF as a whole would not operate with the same equipment--even if you look at the active battalions now there wouldn't be commonality of equipment, with some people fielding the old LBV, some with newer LBVs etc. Expect additional confusion once the new uniforms are broadly fielded since, lets face it, the 3 sets they are going to issue are not going to be enough for everyday use. The challenges will be even greater with the NS Battalions.

good cut
i wonder who wears this...
nice one... the best camo ever...one glance enemy drop rifles and run
The SAR21-GL is being issued already, i suppose ... Anyway, he usual is that it is heavier ... It took out the LAD and place it at the left side, making it very vulunerable. The aiming sight for the GL is also different .... haven't really figured out how it works ...
next up, everyone must apply the camo cream in a digi-camo fashion.. how bout tt?
gd4u: Is the GL our own STK 40mm GL or the M203? Cuz I have heard different reports from different people. Also, isn't the aiming sight just the normal leaf sight?
KLZW: I'd sure like to see that! I think that maybe we will switch to green/brown camou cream instead of green/black?
whats the diff btw the STK GL and M203? the rubber grip? whatsthat for anywayz?
Nope, it is another type of quadrant sight ... What i saw on the GL is just 3 lines,
Genade Launcher
40mm
S/N XXXX
I reckon that if it was M203, it would have been inscribed M203 as well, but there was none. However, the box was labelled SAR21-M203. My conjuction is still STK GL. I haven't really been able to compare, none tried it at live firing... It seems that the STK GL is much shorter (probably to suit the shorter SAR21) ...
I wonder where our MP friends are going to put their brassard...
The STK 40mm GL is a side loading design with the tube opening to the side rather than forward like the M203. So, if the GL opens and loads like the M203, it probably is the M203 or a locally made version rather than the STK 40mm GL
The STK 40mm GL should be able to shoot the more powerful 40mm rounds, hence the need for side-loading. The pump action design of the M203 was why it had issues with the more powerful rounds we use in the 40mm AGL, the launcher simply could not take it.
However as we can point out many times, and already have... we should have been issued this a couple of years ago.

Troops on overseas exercise are using pre-positioned stores. For reasons of security clearance, arms are not transported but stored locally. Those M-16s are therefore NZ Perm Residents until replaced.
