Even if the chest is covered, once you dont see any rank on the sleeves, he must either be an officer or a recruit.
And the differences btwn officer and a recruit are their badges and personal turnout bearing which is very obvious.
So no excuses not to salute; drop twenty.

I trying to be funny only lah, laojiao.
...As if people salute nowadays outside of the Training Institutes.. or even IN the Training Institutes :P
Its supposed to be thinner i.e. more cooling & supposedly dries faster. If that's true then I'm happy. To hell with what it looks like, as long as its comfy for the wearer. I just wish they delayed the S'pore tag, formation badge & arms badge and released it with this. That way we waste less money.
I still have another 5 ICTs to go so I guess I'll get my chance to wear it. Out of curiousity though, that's a helmet cover right? So I guess they'll issue us one to replace the existing camo net on our helmets.
Rank for officers on chest and other ranks on sleeve ? What is the rationale ? Wud'nt is better for ALL whether officer & other ranks all wear rank on chest or same location ? Before being captured in war all ranks & badges shud be discarded. Why make it so easy for enemy to tell who is an officer & who is not.
i wonder why SAF did not add a sleeve pocket (like the above pic) on the new uniform. Most militaries has this feature on the uniform. Therefore, no need to sew on velcro for arms patches or even rank on the sleeves saving our money. Wearing a LBV/ Plate carrier will block access to the 4 pockets and it will quite redundant once you put your vest on.
Interestingly photos show that there is provision for the rifle to be draped with material of the same design.

Same as the old number 4, officer and warrant rank on the shoulders, specialists/men on the sleeves what. No difference. Why are you questioning it now?
Man!x: Sleeve pockets were considered, but rejected because they would prevent folding of smart 4

heh if i go to combat i would wear sterile fatigues (no rank, name patches) so if i get caught i will act the innocent private excuse that i dunno anything.

SAF is always into standardisation. Now's the time to standardise. Put all the ranks in the same place. After all home team already puts all the ranks on the shoulder. And in the US all the ranks go on the collar.
Will be interesting to see the jockey cap and jungle hat in digital camo. Or don't tell me they intend to phase out the cap completely and go beret like US army.
can try e-mail to mindef ~~
actually i'm thinking of doing so...
Officer rank so small how to see? Wait neber salute the ah-sir kena extra how?

You are outdated--US all ranks go on the chest-- they use a velcro system rather than an epaulet system. As for ranks in the same place, I don't see why not-- it may be due to inertial in the system rather than anything inherent.
The US Army has their jockey cap and jungle hat equivalents in their ACU pattern-- eventually we will have our jockey caps and jungle hats in our SGPAT as well.
so the guy in pic is a private?
not very helpful in illustrating the uniform
Its the latest in military fashion :D
Every other country is doing it, so singapore must follow :D
