I think black boots are fine, actually, since outfield they will quickly be covered in mud, and in camp they are easy to kiwi black in about 30 seconds and also polished (if necessary). Can you imagine trying to kiwi brown boots to a uniform colour? Definitely not as easy as black kiwi.
taken from Army WOSPEC book sent by mail...
Shud also have rifle in camo or at least green and not black. As Rex mentioned, black is no longer used modern camo. Black can really standout .

pardon me from commenting, but it doesnt look really like a digi camo (just smaller patches of 2 colors) + the pic on the right looks like a watermelon.

sigh...
At least they are willing to wayang with an updated variant of the SAR-21...

The idea I believe, is not to kiwi them at all, especially if the boots are tan or green! Haven't heard of green kiwi, lol...
But in any case, you can always have a second black pair for parade and drill... after all in the old days (as in my time cira 2004-2006) we were issued gortex combat boots for outfield and leather ones for drill and parade. Then apparently the SAF decided to cut costs and issued leather ones across the board for the recruits, only allowing them to switch if they went to combat vocations of something like that.
Most commandos wear sheep clothing and pretend to be critters . So they get to walk all the way to their objective without being sodomized by their discoverers.

yeah i was issued 2 goretex when i enlisted. it was the 2nd gen type. It tears easily and i always toss them in the garbage after Taiwan and Brunei. the leather one not bad.. Anyway goretex is shite cause water will still go in when doing river crossing walking in water at above the ankle level. i bought a pair of old SAF leather boots for ICT use instead.

The 1st gen Gore-tex tears much more easily... mine lasted barely a year. could the water have seeped in your boots cause of the tear on the sides?
Anyway seems that the newer full leather boots also have this tearing problem, I've come to the conclusion that its due to the way the boot sole is shaped. Any ideas anyone?
our goretex boots lousy la.. water proof is water proof.. but water go in from top will trap inside...
not like US jungle boots.. got drainage one.. so water somehow won't get in from bottom, and will go out from the bottom when it seep in from the top..
our goretex is lousy lor
i go tekong,everyday raining,my boots is water-filled
then go to naval base to do duty,as rain at naval bases is quite big, when need to go inspect the tying of the knots, not only u wet, boots, socks also wet !!
do u tink we can give suggestion to DSTA to procure US military boots for our boys to wear ??? That case our boys will not be bugged by foot rot and MO also no need to see foot rot again... Good idea ???
money.. money... anyway the goretex boots is good when it's dry.. :D

You know thats hardly gonna happen! It's not like we are going to do much desert ops (those who do deploy to deserts can surely afford to buy boots from any nearby US base PX). I still don't see any problem with black boots. The black rifle is a much bigger and much more noticeable target!
The good thing about having only ONE colour of boots is like the good thing about having ONE colour of uniform-- life gets so much simpler. We are running an army here, not a fashion show. Unless we anticipate having our Infantry do ambush ops in urban areas, there really is no need for a digi-grey no. 4 or other coloured boots-- a moving human target in an urban area will stand out no matter what.
Heh I enlisted in 2006 and I don't consider it the old days :P. In fact the BMT batch before me got two pairs of goretex instead of one of each. But the goretex boots don't really offer much advantage over the leather boots in terms of drying faster or anything-- the only difference is that if you leave your wet leather boots to dry by themselves they become rock hard and can cut your ankles.
I believe they looked into issuing jungle boots, but for some reason it went nowhere. Anybody interested is still stuck with either ordering from the US or getting it from Sheares at almost 200 bucks a pop :P Or maybe boot exchanges with the Bruneians.
AFAIK, tan boots work not just for desert, but in general environments as well....
In any case tan boots are better camo then black boots even if you are in jungle, or urban.
But then again our SAR-21s are black... lol
Saw an email that now ppl are taking sizes for people ORD-ing after Jan 09. Those who ORD before Jan 09 will only get their new uniforms at their next ICT ... So, we will likely see the new uniform on the streets ... say Feb/March?
I think before they want to change colour scheme of the SAR21, pls make it modular and lighter (as seen the pic from wospec book) first ....
wah piang eh

Not sure what you mean by waste, since the Army is the one that gave you the credits in the first place!
Anyway, the credits for the uniform will be taken out of your allotment over the next two years.
credits can buy a lot of things leh !!
NSmen credits are peanuts !!
