Wow, looks like they're going for extreme functionality.

I want to wait to the day where SAF can issue LBV and field pack that can carry weights up to 50 kg but you don't feel a thing.
I can't wait for the day, where there is no such thing called annual IPPT, and ICT.

must be a plate carrier system, no need to wear LBV over flak jacket

ahhh those were the days. LBV with all my mags, grenades, waterbag, with the flak jacket underneath, humping alice and stalking around lim chu kang. i won't miss them.
ey by the time it comes down to the ordinary soldier it's probably a watered down version

the ones issued to current NSFs cannot compare to the unit issue ones, but unit issue ones must be returned when you ORD or leave the service. the LBV my cousin(currently in service) uses doesnt look like it is made from Cordura, but some shite material. even my SBO material more durable than the LBV ones.
Is that the case? I thought that when I left last year they just changed the policy that all ORDING troopers from the unit could ORD with their PE i.e. LBV etc. Heh looks like I should go back for a visit and look see look see again.
I agree about the current NSF issued LBV-- the material is feels pretty crappy and the velcro pile quickly fades to a very tactical orange colour :P Also, the small toothed zips quickly jams with any dirt or mud. And of course the integrated waterbag works better in theory than in practice.
All that said though, there have been some slight improvements such as the inclusion of the velcro to attach the toggle rope like on the old SBO webbing-- which shows that change is not impossible, but as always the limiting factor is cost-- or rather how much importance the Army places on each piece of equipment. The amount of money they spent on the new uniforms, for example, could be used to equip every single NSF for at least a few years with the good LBVs with a far greater marginal utility. But thats just my 2 cents.
The new uniform will be like this:

NEW TECH LOOK: New uniforms that have smaller pixels of colour to help the wearer blend into the jungle, like the one above worn by a US Marine, will soon be available to NSmen. -- PHOTO: WWW.MILITARYPHOTOS.NET

They can mangle the current No.4 all they want now. Gee.
are they gonna change the boots? it will be great if they changing to desert boots, can wear my oakley SI assault boots...
Blackhawk's desert combat boots swee also...
Maybe green boots...
IMO black boots are a bad idea, for the simple reason that black is not a colour normally found in nature. As it turns out modern camo schemes have taken out black entirely.
