2.Question
Has SG HIMARS been in operation?
The DSC determines the desired effects, the timing and location of the strike as well as the type of strike assets most suited for destroying the targets. Depending on the nature of the targets, an array of precision and area impact shooters comprising F-16 Fighter aircraft, Apache attack helicopters, PRIMUS Self-Propelled Howitzers (SSPH) and/or High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) can be employed to achieve the precise effects.

if i kill the DSC, then what happens?? whole system falls apart??
dun quite believe it will be able to counter the first strike , if our n'bour wanna activate their MLRS , will they give ample time for our UAV, commandoes , satellie , radar , time to react ?? if some ah siao order to launch , they can be ready in less than 15 mins , before u know the rocket already coming down on us.
though not much saf can do abou the first strike but I have no thought SAF can take out the 2nd strike capabilty
I think the exercise its a deliberate stunt by SAF to tell msia dun play play when d day on pedra come on 23th may

yea ur right, it most likely is a show of power.. Flex our arms and tell those "nearby-who-can-see-us" that we have more muscle power than they do.. And a brain to match along with too..

after Reading the news,i feel SAF aim at take them out before they fire the first missile!!
1.Do the neighbours' missiles need to be put in fuel before they are launched?
Pl share here!!
AIM TO DESTORY BEFORE THEY FIRE 1 ST MISSILE
2.only the insider know how the assts in our neighbours are monitored,
by satellite,EW,human intelligence......
read Monday ST 19 May 2008 p H6--
it said in the EX,the enemy MLRS is assumed'' can deploy, fire and flee in about 15 mins!!''
NOT to be deployed in 15 mins.
''The idea is to take them out before they fire.We just have to be faster.''saif COL LIM TECK YIN,EX director...
Just how fast can they do it?Sorry, that is classified info, says the military.....

(my question:how deep is deep?)
pl note:
This part of the SAF is tuned for the capability to deal with a depth (deep) battle as well as to deal with both static and fleeting targets, which may appear only for a short period of time.
TRANSCRIPT WITH MINISTER AT EX LIGHTNING WARRIOR (AMENDED VERSION)
TRANSCRIPT OF DOOR-STOP INTERVIEW OF MINISTER TEO CHEE HEAN AFTER WITNESSING THE LIVE FIRING AT EXERCISE LIGHTNING WARRIOR
Tan Yingjia (Lianhe Zaobao): Sir, could you please share with us some thoughts for this exercise?
Minister: Well, first of all we would like to thank the South African National Defence Force and South Africa for allowing us to train here. This exercise confirms the SAF’s capability to have comprehensive awareness and precision strike on multiple targets. This includes targets which are static as well as fleeting targets, which means targets that appear only for a short while. This is done by integrating a network of sensors and shooters. Sensors include things like the Weapon Locating Radar, our Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and even our Apache helicopters. Shooters include things like fighters, our Apache helicopters as well as our artillery and precision strike weapons like SPIKE. What this means is that the SAF division now has the capability to see first and to strike first well into the division’s depths and that means that the division is able to influence the battle well into the depth. This is a capability which we are happy to have and is part of the third generation transformation.
Tan Yingjia (Lianhe Zaobao): Sir, how is this relevant to the current operational environment within the greater region?
Minister: It is a much more dynamic operational environment. It is much more important for a division to be able to influence the depth (deep) battle. It also means that targets which are both static and fleeting can be seen and engaged quickly.
Tan Yingjia (Lianhe Zaobao): There is also an increasing threat in unconventional threats such as terrorism. How could such technology be extended to deal with these threats?
Minister: We have a whole range of capabilities. This capability is one end of it but we have other capabilities which deal with things like protection of installations, the special forces, as well as capabilities to deal with chemical and biological threats. So, different parts of the SAF are tuned for different capabilities. This part of the SAF is tuned for the capability to deal with a depth (deep) battle as well as to deal with both static and fleeting targets, which may appear only for a short period of time.
Teh Joo Lin (The Straits Times): Sir, third generation has been going on for quite a number of years. How does this exercise fit into the overall scheme of things? How far are we ahead?
Minister: Well, it is important now because the battle moves much more quickly. And because of longer-range weapons, the ability to influence the battle in the depth and to have very tight sensor-shooter loops is very important so that both the static targets and fleeting targets can be engaged very quickly. This exercise confirms our ability to do that by having a very tight loop between the sensors when you detect the target and being able to bring precise weapons onto the target.

SAF troops on 'shoot and scoot' mission in S. Africa
|
|||
Aim of exercise is to shave precious seconds off time taken to tackle fleeting enemy targets | |||
By Teh Joo Lin | |||
This is the latest in a series of Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) exercises that validate new war-fighting concepts. The 'enemy' in this exercise included modern-day multiple-launch rocket systems that can deploy, fire and flee in about 15 minutes. 'The idea is to take them out before they fire. We just have to be faster,' said Colonel Lim Teck Yin, director of the exercise codenamed Lightning Warrior. Just how fast can they do it? Sorry, that is classified information, says the military. Speed is the key and by putting the foot down on the technology pedal, SAF troops are looking to shave seconds and minutes in the time it takes to detect and destroy a target.
One of the new concepts tested in this exercise is a six-man Storm or Strike Observers Mission team. Storm teams are digitally plugged into a network of 'sensors' like the Searcher unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and 'shooters' like Apache attack helicopters and self-propelled artillery guns. This gives the team the ability to see enemy targets from afar and rapidly direct a combination of air and land strikes against them. In the past, this would be handled separately and by the time this was completed, the mobile target might be gone, explained Colonel Yeo Yee Peng, the exercise's air director. 'In the past, we were talking about minutes. Now, we are talking about minutes and seconds,' he said. With several Storm teams in the field, the division strike centre - considered the brain or nerve centre - can direct precision strikes against multiple pockets of enemies lurking in the battlefield. 'We're like their arms and legs,' said Lieutenant Jerome Lim, 23, deputy commander of a Storm team. Inside five-tonne trucks parked under camouflage nets kilometres away from the heat of battle, commanders in the division strike centre can view everything live on large screens as battle unfolds. Smarter and faster computers allow for quicker decisions, even in an environment cluttered with many targets. Two things that help make this possible: digital maps that give a complete picture of what is happening on the ground and in the air; and the streaming of live images from the UAVs, which have a range of about 100km. Witnessing the outcome of all this was Defence Minister Teo Chee Hean on Saturday from a hilly observation post more than 1,400m above sea level. Speaking to reporters after he saw the Apaches and artillery guns blow five armoured 'enemy' vehicles to bits, Mr Teo said the exercise confirmed the SAF's ability to be fully aware of the battlefield and to conduct precision strikes on multiple targets, including those that 'appear only for a short while'. 'This means the SAF division now has the capability to see first and to strike first, well into the division's depths.' The Apache pilots, on their maiden trip to South Africa, were grateful for the chance. Lieutenant-Colonel Ng Wei- Jin, commanding officer of the 120 Squadron, said: 'We've a vast training area with little restriction...we can do a lot over here that we can't do in Singapore.' |
When he said DEPTH, he meant DEPTH. The enemy's depth.
He doesnt mean deep.
It's a military term for use when you are "higher up" when you hold a command position.
I.E. not you.
It's a statement of fact.
The enemy's depth is the "rear of the enemy." Where the generals are, where their artillery guns are, where their logistics are.
It just means that we can reach the enemy where he thinks is a "safe" place.
Cutting off the snake's head, removing the tiger's teeth and kicking a giant's leg from under him.
Edit: i'm emo today.
talk cock lah, think enermy so stupid let MLRS do the job alone, while your apaches and DSC are directing, who knows that SAM or MBTs will be static and not doing other thing. Anyway, not a need for this lah, malaysia now very messy polictics already, and our weapons is westen style while malaysia/indonesia is still colonial style with russian weapons and etc...

MLRS is solid-fueled right? so the time required to prep and launch would be minimal.... however doubt that our stuff would be in place and ready in a MLRS first-strike situation... however, in a second-strike (or further) situation, this arrangement might actually be viable.
oya, lionnoisy! can dun post so long posts? or alternertively just post the main points in front in a diff color or smth... rather confusing with your posts there...

anyone want to chz the flag in Istana will pay a really high price,
even they win after a big fight.
Lol, in the 1st place, all Armed forces in the world, have a minimal number of assets on stand by.
That means that MLRS, fighter jet, soldier, ship can move in the shortest timing possible. Everything would have already been prepaped b4 hand.
Not "got enemy plane, quick go intercept .... ok, wait ar ... the missile not loaded up onto my plane"
Not "Hey, MRLS, move ... ok, wait ar ... the truck haven't refill its fuel yet ... "
So, if the MRLS wana strike us ... it is very possible that within seconds or minutes ... that missile is going to hit us ...
