Victorinox SAK, bought 5 years ago at Beach Road. Those black marks are remnants of when I covered the entire white body in "permanent" marker. It's been sitting in my drawer for the past two years, untouched. Messy scratches on the blade from my sloppy (but successful) attempts at sharpening; unoiled.

just wanna know how you guys maintain the knives? what type of oil you use to lubricate the joint?
Hi,
If you knife/knives is stainless, no need oil. Just keep it dry. If die-die need oil, use cooking oil if you are using it for cooking task as well. If not, any oil works. Facial oil also can!

Hi Jerome,
You can find both Cold Steel and SOG at Sheares Technology Pte Ltd. It's located at here:
http://www.hotfrog.sg/Companies/Sheares-Technologies-Pte-Ltd
However, it is more expensive than you internet purchase + shipping!
And if you are looking for stainless steel, nothing beats Fallkniven A1 or F1. Check out my posts... :p

Good for you. It's a good folder. But very expensive so do take care of it.
Also watch out of the arc-lock. It tends to open up accidentally...

Hi, new to these forums, registered cause I'm thinking of buying a butterfly knife and bringing it back to SG, then when I was googling I was directed here. Quick question, according to one of the previous posts, butterfly knife is banned in Singapore, but when I went to SPF's site and look at their list of prohibited items, the only knives there are switch blades aka flick knives, and gravity knives, with no mention of butterfly knife. Technically, a butterfly knife doesn't fall in either category.
http://www.spf.gov.sg/licence/AE/others/List_AE.pdf
From: http://www.cs.cmu.edu/afs/cs/user/wbardwel/public/nfalist/auto_knives/state_v_strange.txt
A number of considerations lead us to this conclusion.
First, butterfly knives are not "switchblade knives in which the
blade is sprung by a downward snap of the wrist." Webster's at
993. As we have seen, these knives do not meet the definition of
switchblade knives. Nor are they sprung by a downward snap of
the wrist. In fact, a number of motions, albeit quickly
performed, are necessary to bring the knives to bear. These
knives also do not fit the definition of automatic or semi-
automatic. Finally, these knives do not appear to fit the common
understanding of the term gravity knife or the way that the term
is used in common usage. See, e.g., Quattrone, 260 Cal.Rptr. at
47- 48. It is instructive that the expert testimony in Quattrone
apparently paralleled the expert testimony given at the two
evidentiary hearings in this case regarding the meaning of the
term "gravity knife."
It's a long case to read, but I've pulled out the conclusion which summarise the whole tl;dr. I know that Alaska != Singapore, but the definitions for all 3 blades should be the same regardless of countries and so technically, the butterfly knife doesn't fall into the switch blade/flick knife category nor the gravity knife category. Is the butterfly knife ban listed somewhere else other than the SPF site that someone can point me to?
it falls under gravity knives.
Dear nehpyh,
Can you guide me through the process cause I saw in June you brought a knife back (I guess you purchase throught the internet), it is a nice knife. I looking at a cold steel recon 1 any advise on how I should go about it.
Thanks again for all your kind assistance.

Hi OS,
1. Just make sure the online shop ships internationally. Price wise, it's up to your initiatives.
2. Read all the terms carefully and clearly before plunging in. Most of the screw-ups comes from not reading, not understanding, and not asking! Be patient and email them. Remember of time difference.
3. The knife will be stucked at Singapore Post Office HQ under ICA. They will check if you need to pay GST. Anything less than $300 is GST free.
4. At the ICA, they will make you open the parcel. If the knife is >15cm long, ICA will withhold the knife for CID.
CID will collect the knife from ICA every Thursday and bring it back to CID/licensing at Cantoment. You will have to collect your knife there and complete some simple paperwork. That means you'll have to make 2 separate trips!
So plan your trip carefully on a Wed or Thurs morning and maybe you can collect your knife on Thurs evening before 5PM at Cantonment!
Tip: Not tested, but you can request the seller to label the item as kitchen knife. Why? Cos NTUC can sell 16cm chef knife without all the hassles!!! Dun ask why...
Good luck!!
Dear nehpyh,
Thanks so much for the kind feedback and assistance. Very much appreciated. OS
