survival knives are probably hard to find in Singapore, swiss knives(aka victorinox) are easy to find in beach road, just be careful as there are many fakes out there.
Gerber, SOG, coldsteel or Kabar 1..
you can get them from sheares, send them an email or something, their next orders are going to be shipping in by late sep or early oct. their website >> http://sheares.com/

there are many fakes in ebay so I don't recommend that. you could buy from amazon but its troublesome to go through the ICA. It's legal, but troublesome. You might even have to go down and pick up your knife personally if it gets stopped after reaching Singapore.
thanks in advance! ^^V

I read the whole thread but im still quite confused! D:
If the blade is not more than 16cm it wont go to canton or ICA right?
and the 10 inch is. 10inch BLADE not allowed or overall length 10inch??
what about people under 18( like myself), when the knives reach singapore custom and when we go to collect they realise we are under 18 what could happen?
Once my qns are being clear, I would like to get Gerber LMF II and Becker BK 2! :)
Well as Ahle91 mentioned in his post on pg.14, he got a buck hoodlum through no problem.(10 inch blade, overall length 15+ inch)
as for the age thing, I'm not sure, you could contact them and try asking? Never bought a knife online before so can't help you on that part
oh yeah if your into small to mid sized fixed blades you might wanna check out the coldsteel SRK or the SOG seal pup elite.
Thanks alot faker!! I appreciate it! :)
The SOG seal pup elite seems to be a light weight knife. I like something heavier in my hands.
Coldsteel SRK looks good.
Which of the 4 knives mention is the cheapest?
Well for the benefit of those who're getting into this hobby of collecting knives for display or functional uses such as outdoor sports/overseas camping/ jungle trekking. Perhaps this might help you out.
Like a few, still new to this thread and forum, i have found the requirement of such knives for my overseas trips/treks, and sought information as to how to legally accquire them, and have across the span of this year now owned a few knives, which i've purchased via amazon.
I respectively contacted ICA, and SPF's arms and explosives licencing department, it takes a little while to get the answers you are looking for, because for one, the customer service call operating officer isnt' exactly very knowledgable regarding the info, and will often redirect you to his/her supervisor in charge who will either direct you from ICA line to SPF, or the other way around. So i just emailed my queries and it got forwarded to the right department and here's my reply. (below in diff font)
As of now, i own 2 Gerber LMF IIs (infantry black), Bear Grylls Ultimate Survival Knife, 2 SOG Seal Pup Elite Serrated Tiger Stripe, and i'm eyeing the ESEE-5/6 by R.A.T.
The only time i had a huge delay in shipment was when i compounded my orders, namely a Gerber LMF II, Bear Grylls Ultimate Surival knife and a Gerber Prodigy Tanto, as i was ordering on behalf of friends who're joining me on the expedition. As such the bulk order got impounded by ICA for around a few days before it got delivered to me. I used Vpost, so i need not go down to cantonment road or whatever. Amazon usa to VpostUSA, VpostUSA to singapore, and that's where the inspection held it and delayed before i finally got my package.
I genuinely hope this helps.... this whole rough idea how the process goes.... so you'd know what to do!
cheers!
And for privacy's sake I've removed my name and the officer's extension, though the gist of the message should be clear.
Dear ---------,
Single purchase of survival knife for camping trips or diving knife can be approved but please be advised not to import knives with blades more than 30cm in length.
Generally, import of survival knives will not require a permit but may still be subject to our inspection upon importation prior to the release of the item to the owner.
If item is shipped in, it would be detained by ICA officers and forward to us for inspection. Once approved, we shall contact yourself for collection.
Please take note that Flick Knives are not allowed in Singapore but manual foldable knives are permitted.

Shipping costs is dependant on how you wanna ship it, as amazon has limited shipping internationally for items, but predominantly ships to all of usa, i use Vpost to help ship from USA to Singapore. But within USA, as in from Amazon to the Vpost address in USA, that's another shipping point.
As for the amazon shipping within USA, prices vary on the speed of delivery, eg, 1day shipping, 2 day shipping, 3-5 day shipping or 5-8 days, you can check it up on Amazon, i know 5-8 tends to be free with purchases over 100 USD i think... but i stick often with 2 day shipping for around 20 plus USD.
When the parcel gets to VpostUSA, it will be weighed and sized up, before delivery price is stated, after payment only which will it then be delivered to SG. So pray that Amazon keeps the box small, and pray that the weight of your item is light.
So all in all, it's basically 2 couriers, one from amazon(whichever courier they use, fedex/USPS, etc) and Singpost(Vpost USA).
If you however manage to buy from other sites which offer international shipping, then you'd save yourself alot of trouble, problem is prices tend to be very much more expensive with such sellers unless you know where to look, and customer satisfaction/gurantee of item's delivery and quality may not always necessarily be there. Eg, problems with goods and filing of claims will be a hassle as opposed to approaching larger corporations with such problems.
I Ship mainly via USPS or Fedex. for USPS it may be stopped for inspection and you will have to go down to paya lebar to collect. BTW im selling some SRM folding pocket knives that i ordered extra, anyone interested can contact me :D
@xFakerx - If you are shipping via amazon, since they don't directly deliver all items to SG(only vid games and misc are direct), You have to give them your VPOST address. basically sign up with vpost, and they'd give you the address to use.
So when you make purchases on amazon, just give em' that vpost address. I think the address is sacremento something. and your name will be your VP number + name..something like that. you can check it out at www.vpost.com.sg
Though just to ask as a precaution, if you're under 21, do get a parent or guardian to purchase on your behalf (for both visa/ and instances where it's impound by ica and requiring pickup- doesn't happen with vpost though, it just gets delayed ), though i would have to enquire as to why you'd need the knife in the first place? Camping or collecting?
wanna buy Darth Vader's lightsaber ?
buy from me and get Luke Skywalker's lightsaber at 50% off....................
@xFakerx - I would agree, while handy, swiss knifes are mainly for small tasks and not for full functional purposes. Outdoor survival and camping trips would normally require at some point some form of batoning to chop your wood, which requires a fixed blade.
In my honest opinion, i think ESEE-5 / ESEE-6, looks like one hell of a huge tank which is gonna be lovely to baton with/chop wood. but it's pretty pricey. Gonna get that one soon.
What's the knife you're eyeing on again bro?
I don't think they even allow bringing of personal knives into camp, let alone it's usage... I guess it's a way of establishing conformity amongst soldier and to reduce the possible competition of who's got the coolest biggest knife =)
Also, you won't particularly have much use for your knife i guess, judging from friends who have ORD-ed, they've said there's no particular need for a knife in any situation whatsoever.
They used to give SOG multitools, but now the new batch, not sure if it's as of last year or the year before are now getting victorinox (swiss knife like) multitool. I kinda like the SOG multitool better though, however the SOG rusts like one hell of a piece of scrap if un-maintained/un-oiled. The only shame is the new multitool doesn't exactly have pliers to dislodge bullets in event of rifle I.A.
I guess you'd know more when you enter N.S. Standard issue gear, you gotta realise is always made by the lowest bidder... so well, guess everything will at some point break down and suck eventually.
For camping/bushcraft/survival, a 4-5inch blade is more than enough usually.. The esee4 has a 4.5inch blade and its a good choice, but abit heavy..
This is mine with a custom sheath i got made by a swedish sheath maker. With a Mexpedition pouch i can attach to the sheath that carries a small firemaking kit.
Damn it looks so new in this photo...
I recently ordered an ESEE 6 for my gf, hope it arrives soon. I chose it over the ESEE 5 cause of the extra blade length and lighter weight of the knife.. ESEE 5 is really a tank..
If you dont mind spending more for a quality knife, ESEE, Fallkniven and becker are some of the more popular brands.
But if you're on a budget, i recommend Condor tool and knives. They have great knives for <USD$30.. If not u can try moras or the cold steel economy line. I have a mora and its fantastic, modded the sheath to carry a firesteel. Also have a cold steel finn bear, doesnt hold its edge well but sharpens up easily.
Yep..ordered online..its worth the money for bad conditions, but if normal conditions i prefer a normal match over the stormproof version..they burn out really fast..
I
My dream knife now is the fallkniven thor.. But got to save up a long time before i can get it haha.
