I contacted both SPF and ICA regarding SG's laws for importing knives, and i was informed that i have to apply for a permit from a licensing officer before i can import in the knife....

wad kind of knives r u looking at? I do sell swords and knives. Anyway, i'm selling off a new Last Samurai series katana. Its a fully functional sword.
I was in Sheares and saw someone buy one of the Sheares Technologies combo edge knives. They look nice and was thinking of getting one. Anybody have more info on them? What type of steel etc? Anybody own one?
Thanks!

In the Army ,you may be given with jack knife or some other form of blade but the Navy guys carry some issued by the force. As for myself, when still active carried my personel set which was sharper than the ones issued. Had one fixed blade and also a folding blade, never know when you will depend on one. Useful for cutting ropes and for emergencies. All knives have one inportant job which is to cut whatever that maybe. A sharp knife is often the safest. I still carry a folding blade with me now, job related.
Too bad only leatherman and other utility tools can be sent to Singapore by mail. Fixed blade and folding knives cannot. Got one Leatherman Charge TTI for about $150 from the states 3 year back but still have not seen that model in here. Older models selling for $200+ very expensive to get here.
Word of advice don.t carry hunting knife outside.Back in 1989 had a folding hunting knife on me at East Coast and got spot checked by a patrol car.As earlier there was a report the SAF personne, using SAF11b, had been involved in a crime at the park. And being from the Navy with SAF 11B,to identify myself, ended up in lockup for 6 hours before got release after comfirming with my buddy back in Naval shipyard the reason for have the knife with me. Got back my knife from the police but decide to have it destoryed as a new blade it landed me in lockup.
The worst part of the ordeal was I on the way of getting a promotion which fell through as the SAf held it on my personnel folder for six months whereas the Police squashed the case. That also effected my mid year bonus which i did not get with the others on board. Lucky had a good Commanding Officer who fought on my behalf, adding my trip back to Bedok Police Station to get a copy of the report, did I managed to get my bonus in the month of November.
So if you carry better have a good reason why or end up like me.

U have to check with them for specifics. But usually these combo edge knives are made using stainless steel, as these steel are easier for machine press. Yet they r strong and resistant to rust, thus requires less maintenance and care compared to carbon steel blades.
Whatever blade you have or might get. In time and after some use ,will get blunt and may have dirt or rust forming. So proper care should be taken to keep them sharp and oiled. Take good care of your blade and it will take care of you.
@Roastduckrice (sry i'm new here..dont know how to quote.)
Serrated knives are generally avoided unless the user specifically needs to use it to cut webbing or cordage regularly during the day, or when cutting those materials are the primary function of the knife. They rip more than straight edges and can still cut when they are blunt, but they're a pain in the *** to sharpen.. If you know how to sharpen a straight edge and dont need a serrated edge, get a straight edge.
After much calling and asking and sorting out what's a can and can't....
I'm glad to say i now own
2x Gerber LMF II Infantry Black survival knife
Bear Grylls Ultimate Knife
Gerber Prodigy Knife Tanto (because of this knife, the package it was in was held for extra week by ICA...they must've thought it was double edged or something before holding it)
So having had all these, i'm now eyeing the Navy Seal Elite, though i'm wondering if it fits the legal limitations of 10' inch (blade). Since the explosives and arms regulation states that knives with 10' inch and more require permit application through spf, a tradexchange freight company to import it on your behalf.
But the navy seal elite white 12' inch in overall length, the blade's only like 7 inches if i'm not wrong...so folks! who's got the NAVY SEAL knife? I know most have the seal pup....but those who have successfully bought a navy seal team/seal elite, do advice!

did they say about age requirements? (eg.21 and above)
its really hard man, regulations r grey. i just tried to import in 2 katana, and now they said its sharp, need to blunt it. Yet my previous one was alright...
Then caesar 1 is ok, when i asked the guy, he said, from what he knows, its blunt when it passed thru their a&e department.....

You actually can import in katanas, though the last i checked with ICA and SPF, you would have to get a forwarding agent, listed from TRADExchange, liase with SPF as to whether you meet the requirements to bring in the said items,
the forwarding agent then applies on your behalf for the permit (will cost you some cash), the services of the forwarding agent/application of permit, will also cost you money. They will also be the ones importing/receiving the item on your behalf....
as to the collection of the item, i'm not sure, because so far i'm still digging up on the how-tos and the what-to-dos before i bring in that fancy katana i wanna get. Caesers price their katanas up to 500% more than MSRP.
There's this sword, which i enquired on, sold for 300usd , plus minus a few bucks sold on amazon, ebay and various american dealers , Caesar's selling it for 1.3k. So i'd rather go through the slow and painful hassle of finding out and doing the shipping and permit applications myself than get cutthroat-scalped by a middleman.
Though for now, I'd focus on getting me that Navy Seal Elite i've been eyeing on for my camping trip. Gotta call up SPF soon.
10 inch is ok. I got a buck hoodlum got thru no problems at all. But a 10inch blade for camping? Where u headed to??
