Who do you think is the greatest general of all? And why.
e.g BG Lee, BG Yeo, Admiral Teo etc.
Though I personally admire Erwin Rommel, I'd still say that George Patton would be the greatest general.
He's candour and militaristic charisma was evident in the way he spoke to his troops. His speeches raised the morale of the men that rode with him in the Third Army.
Some of the more memorable quotes.
"You can't run an army without profanity; and it has to be eloquent profanity!"
"... There is one great thing you men will be able to say after this war is over and you are home once again. You may be thankful that twenty years from now when you are sitting by the fireplace with your grandson on your knee and he asks you what you did in the great World War II, you won't have to cough, shift him to the other knee and say, 'Well, your granddaddy shovelled sh!t in Lousiana. ' No, sir, you can look him straight in the eye and say, 'Son, your granddaddy rode with the great Third Army and a son-of-a-goddamned b!tch named Georgie Patton!"

The first was born to be a General but stopped at the rank of BG to enter politics with a glorified title.
The other two had to be given similar ranks to keep the first one company and prevent any political embarassment.
All are untested generals - with BG being the lowest ranking amongst the Generals.
Is it any surprise that no Lieutenant Generals in the SAF ever made it into Politics, all ended up being Vice-Presidents of Government Linked Companies ?
Does that say something about the BGs that qualify to be Ministers compared to the LGs that got stuck in the Corporate seats ?
The greatest generals of all - across how many time lines and in which period ?
Each generation will throw up a super star in the most desparate of times.
Can one general be compared with another from a different period in human or military history ?
if u wanna make it political, then put it in speaker's corner...
if not, then keep your replies straight to what the title is asking...
crap.. i'm seeing ppl trying to bring politics into military nuts...

Bad call from TS in using Singapore Generals as an example to be compared with the Greatest Generals in the History of Mankind or in any Military.
My piece was just a simple reply to bring into perspective those Singapore BGs that were given their ranks - which were a result of politics more then military merit.
THIS IS SPARTA!!!1
General Electric...
Moses.
moses was not a general. god gave him directions.
He is , he made the perfect tactical retreat.Red river crossing =P n decimated enemies pursuit force totally. Travel through the dessert for years , out manueveriung enemy positions. Somemore with Godon his side , tell me he is not the greatest general LOL!
tat kinda makes sense. then again, if that's the case then god is the greatest general, no?

Did you not see the light of day yet, despite the overwhelming brightness ?
GOD is the master strategist, the master tactician, the master visionary, and the master mover of events ?
Surely He must be the greatest General across all the timelines in the History of Mankind and all versions of Military History ?
Moses was merely GOD's runner, and he kept everyone in his flock running across the desert to escape from the Egyptian pharoah.
but god doesnt exist. it only exist in ppl's mind.
true true true

If you don't believe God exists, then God doesn't exist. The truth is what you choose to believe, but whether the "Truth" is based on facts, is another question.
Back to topic pls.

Book of Daniel speaks of the 4 greatest kingdoms: Babylon,Greek, Roman then AntiChrist.
Greek: Alexandra the Great
Roman: Julius Cesar
Old Testament: Joshua, King David
In terms of Chinese context, Genghis Khan.
I always adore the French: Joan of Arc & Napoleon.
how about Muhammad,
Perhaps there should be some standard of measure to determine who is the best Generals in the History of Mankind - across all time lines.
Some points could include the possession of intellectual capacity that influence the military vision in evolving military strategies and tactics that decide on the outcome of events that affects history.
The greatest general may not necessarily be a military personality, but a humble civilian with the capacity of disecting complex human and military issues with simple and logical thinking to unravel the challenges with the least efforts.
Such a person could be Sun Tzu - whose wrtting of the Art of War continue to be relevant and remain as a source of inspirational studies by ''student-Generals'' in the Twenty-First Century.

Sorry to say, but SG has very little experience in war compared to other countries. So your generals do not have the credentials to match it with real war time leaders.
General Patton, Ataturk, Rommel, Monash (from Australia)
Ho Chi Minh was famous for his assault on the French at Dien Bien Phu,
Mao Ze Dong was famous for the Long March and conquering the Nationalist movement.
Admiral Nelson in the Battle of Trafalgar.
Endless examples.
Gaius Julius Caesar, Professor Stonewall Jackson, and ΑλÎξανδρος ο ΜÎγας
Also impressed by Gaius Marius, Vericingetorix,ThašÅ³ka Witko (Crazy Horse).
And of course my own illustrious ancestor Robert E. Lee.
Don Juan of Austria!
