The Kalashnikov is an adequate weapon that is inexpensive to mass produce. But it is nowhere close to being the ultimate assault rifle. An AK is a lot like an old used car. It will get you where you need to go. But there are much nicer cars that you could be driving. All AKs are basically a simplified version of a World War II weapon used by Nazi Germany. There are some better models that were made in what used to be Yugoslavia. Those weapons were actually made from milled steel. Instead of being slapped together from cheap ass stamped metal parts like the standard Kalashnikov. All of the Russian/Eastern European models are superior to the Chinese copies.
In case anyone is curious. I don't have very high opinions of the M-16/AR-15 either.

Point taken eddie, technically AK were not that impressive.
But we also have to take into account on its influence , its fear factor and its contribution to death of 250,000 people every year (bad contribution , imho) and also it has changed the face of war and it has allowed ragtag militias to challenge the armies of major powers.

Oh I totally agree. Because they are an effective weapon and cheap to produce Aks have made more impact on world affairs that any other modern firearm. They are also fun to shoot.
