24.10.27 New IFV for 3 SG Battlion . Confirmed by then Chief of Army Neo KH.Terrex AV81 IFV is among the platforms under under consideration then
With the reports stated initial deliver from end of 2008,i think the platform
was already decided.Any news?

JDW Correspondent,Kuala LumpurMalaysia is upgrade the software systems on its six F/A-18C and two F/A-18D Hornets to allow them to fully utilise the latest weapon systems for the aircraft.
4.If Terrex AV81 IFV is chosen,how effective it is?
The upgrade is expected to cost up to USD17 million and is to be completed by 2011. Work will be carried out by a US Navy-appointed contractor as the upgrade programme will be handled by the US Department of Defense under the Foreign Military Sales programme.
The upgrades are necessary since Malaysia's F/A-18s have not undergone any software upgrade since their delivery in 1997 and thus are not fully able to utilise weapon systems introduced for the Hornets since then, such as the Advanced Medium Range Air to Air Missile (AMRAAM) and the Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM).
Malaysia currently has less than two dozen AMRAAMs in storage on US territory; it will bring them into the country this year. Malaysia has also sent a request for an undisclosed number of JDAMs that is currently pending with the US.
I cant tell you.But Bionix ,the wheeled product from ST ,is the one of the
four finalists of US MAV
multi--billions dollar selection---the ONLY one non--US products!!

So the future infantry will not longer be foot soldiers but highly mobile force with 8x8 wheeled IFV and other variants.
The armoured units will remained as the tracked armoured force.
Infantry units in PDF will remain as foot soldiers .
Guards will as it is and so on...........
My speculation on the future of SAF
I hope that our new mechanised infantry will be equipped with own 8x8 wheeled IFV, 8x8 wheeled mortar carrier, 8x8 wheeled 105mm FS etc....Similar to US Stryker Bde.
Our armoured force will be fully tracked with Leo 2 , BX, Bronco MTC etc.
( So buy more Leo 2 to total qty of more than 200!!
)
Which I should classified the Armoured Bde as Heavy Bde, Mechanised Infantry as Medium Bde and lastly the PDF and Guards as the Light Bde.
Of course the Guards Bde will be Air Assualt and Amphibious Bde. -
Good news mainly to me.
In my opinion, those SAMs coming online in 5 years will be a little too slow considering that in 5 years we will have at least 18 (maybe 36?) MKMs fully trained and operational. Rapiers reach is a little too short i find (but what to do?)
My views differs slightly from garys, while we are looking towards a majority mechanised force, all mechanised forces will have problems with fuel being the biggest item.
We will most likely have
Armoured brigades (Armour!)
Rapid reaction/airborne forces (you know what they are)
URBAN Ops mechanised brigades. Frankly i see the Terrax or any wheeled brigade level combat forces to be used in urban combat settings. (Your enemy will not stand in the open to let you kill them sadly.) Wheeled vehicles allow the rapid and economical movement of troops under urban combat conditions whilst providing adequate firepower and protection. (Not to mention wheels are much less noisy and allows tactical movement.
Our Infantry will most likely be paired up with Broncos, fuel economical + support+ protection and almost all terrain passable. (To ignore the idea of men moving on foot will seriously hampen and restrict our ops on a grand scale.) -

It's not that we cannot catch the robbers with our tech. But to show that we can will cause great alarm i think. Besides, laucnhing UAVs, radars and sensors to catch 2 robbers very over kill. Let some NSF nubs scare scare a bit to catch them on foot more learning.

Has anybody considered that sending in all those units is actually a good chance for some "real" missions? Sure, its only 3 starving robbers but its a real objective instead of some imaginary one, it lets the commanders and men have a taste of what its like in a relatively risk free environment too.
