i belive the american lowered the number on the rate of fire ...while the exact number were unknown, i think it might be more than rds per min. So thats why i ask, because SRAMS spec were change from 10 to 18.Originally posted by gary1910:Fully automatic , so what?
Does it improve the rate of fire ?
Rate of fire is dependent on the barrel ability to withstand the heat generated during firing w/o being damaged, so with full auto w/o improving the rate of fire is totally waste of money!!!
Not only that, you still need to maintain the automated system!!!
So with at max rate of fire at 10 rds per min which the burst rate which could only be sustained for only 2 min, i.e. 6 sec per rd for 2 mins , which could be easily handled manually , so why bother to have fully automatic !!!
It is better to have system that could be more quickly deployed, for example the lightest Dragon system is to be towed by a HUMVEE, whereas our SRAMS could be mounted on the HUMVEE and fire directly from there, so it should has much faster deployment!!!
Let me enlighten you abt what is burst rate and what is sustained rate of fire,
Burst rate is max rate of fire which could be sustained for only a min or 2.
Sustained rate of fire could be sustained for much more longer but with much lower rate than the burst rate.
Dragon Fire, max(burst) rate is only 10 rds per min for max of 2mins,
Sustained rate is only 4 rds per min.

As for SRAMS, max(burst) rate is 18 rds per min
And the sustained rate is abt 10 rds per min

What for?Originally posted by tankfanatic:a fully automaton system means it can be put on robot....an un manned mortar system.
Now imagine what an arty system can do when its support troops in less-friendly territory. Places where the enemy thinks they are safe... BOOM!Originally posted by gary1910:What for?
Arty system operate several km away from the frontline, what the point of having unmanned arty system where it will be deep within friendly territory?!?
Arty operation is not that simple as it should be. Automation is only help to reduce man power not the process that from scrap to record zero line ready for fire order.Originally posted by Shotgun:Now imagine what an arty system can do when its support troops in less-friendly territory. actually base from what ive read about dragon fire....they did exactly that.....but the prototype still need one operator to operate remotely using lap top, but at a distance.Originally posted by seachfun:Arty operation is not that simple as it should be.
