Emphatically disagree. This baby survived everything two and a half years of CDO training could throw at it:Originally posted by specfore:The problem with a heavy complex watch is that it will not stand g-forces if it was not properly designed for it. Worse still if it is an automatic ( not a light quartz mechanism).
Now a days the army allow silver or bright colour watches ?? especially if you are in active unitsOriginally posted by Gedanken:Emphatically disagree. This baby survived everything two and a half years of CDO training could throw at it:
It happily survived leopard crawling through gravel, stopped a bayonet, spent days exposed to seawater and kept soldiering on while neighbouring G-Shocks had an average life span of about three months. At this very moment, it's still ticking merrily away on my watch winder.

I'm sorry, i got confused for a moment, i thought you were actually expounding on your own physical toughness instead of the watch!Originally posted by Gedanken:It happily survived leopard crawling through gravel, stopped a bayonet, spent days exposed to seawater and kept soldiering on while neighbouring G-Shocks had an average life span of about three months. oh. So that's how you do it now? Isn't it kinda troublesome to roll back your gloves and pull up the sleeves, or pull up the sleeves and roll back the glove just to check the time?Originally posted by Rockhound:aviator gloves cover lor.... who wanna say anything.....
sleeve cover it anywaes
Nowadays? I served from 1990-1993. I had it on a black velcro strap with a flap to cover the dial during BMT, and after that I had it on a black rubber strap.Originally posted by justcooler:Now a days the army allow silver or bright colour watches ?? especially if you are in active units
They may have improved the construction these days, but back then the rubber casing wouldn't hold up to the treatment. once that rubber casing fell off, the rest of the watch was toast.Originally posted by wonderamazement:Ged, what happened to the G-shocks? They died just like that? I expected them to fare better.
And how much did they cost back then?Originally posted by Gedanken:They may have improved the construction these days, but back then the rubber casing wouldn't hold up to the treatment. once that rubber casing fell off, the rest of the watch was toast.
Hmm.. I got a FOC Sovil Titus 2 years back and it's still workingOriginally posted by Gedanken:Hmm, let's see - I picked up the Seiko for $150 in 1987 ...
Hey, whaddaya know? It's $7.50 a year and still going!
Good question - I'd guess between $50 and $75.Originally posted by wonderamazement:And how much did they cost back then?
You collect watches or something?Originally posted by Gedanken:Well, if we're going to go that way, I could sell this baby right now and it would make me about $3000 in 18 months:
