Knowing how difficult it was to penetrate Singapore, the resident KGB officer then informed KGB HQ that he had a spy ring formed when he had none..... he simply made false expense claims from KGB HQ. He was caught when KGB Auditor came to interview the "Singapore Spy ring" and found that the local KGB guy had conned HQ of plenty of $$$$$.

This above article some how sounds like a forced confession from the captive after prolonged interrogation and likely torture...be it mental or physical...
As mentioned before, assuming this is true, i am wondering what exactly is Singapore looking for in Australia which warrants such a big cover-up...not just of spying activities but also of captured operatives...for 20 odd years... -
I don't think its what we are looking in Australia.
Its what the Australians know that we don't. To me, if efforts are directed at Australian Signals, Intelligence assets, its more likely that we want information that they are getting.
Who knows what wealth of information we may have access to if we compromise ECHELON?
