Can the SAF fight in tunnels?

They have many numerous exit/entry points which are hidden and can extend way out of the actual living quarters. So a 'siege' will not work very well. They can ambush these soldiers laying the siege at night after crawling out of these tunnels or harass them by hit and run tactics through hidden firing posts.Originally posted by VagueHart:How bout we set up perimeters around it, their resources are limited, in there. The US troops don't just use any smoke...they used tear gas to smoke them out but didn't work well as the Viet-cong have constructed special features such as used of air tight trap doors, having numerous hidden ventilation shafts, entry/exit points.It has been reported that thousands of tons of CS gas were used by the U.S. forces in Vietnam to bring Viet Cong into the open, other estimates report 15 million pounds of CS being used

Having visited Cu Chi Tunnels last Sunday,i can tell you that crawling in the tunnel is terrible and after 30m(they customised a section of the tunnel for tourists such that the entry holes are larger,doubled height for the tunnel and exits every 30m) we opted to exit as our legs could not continue.U can either crawl or squat-walk

Well it is reasonable to assume that if our armed forces were to be put in a similar situation the best bet would be to fence off the entire area like the US did during then..no point going into the tunnels because nothing would work..even flushing water down didn't work according to the guides at Cu Chi when I went..the vietcong simply let the water drain out into the Mekong River.
