I don't think they use the same kind of weapons for sport shooting so the advantages of being sniper trained is limited.Originally posted by tek_koh:they do have 50m rifle prone postion, which is quite close to some ns firing drills

You see, the sports shooters and our soldiers don't use the same weapons...and these atheletes are playing it as a sport not for killing the enemy and defending a nation...very different....Originally posted by infantry:50m?
its like 100m for recruits, im guessing much further for snipers.etc???
Very true, for a sniper or military shooter, a lot is dependant on the rifle itself, the aiming part. and i believe for military shooters, it is very easy to get a shot a point-blank result. However for sport shooters, it is different, we depend on our body posture and the firmness of our stance to shoot, getting a point-blank result is never easy.Originally posted by tankee1981:You see, the sports shooters and our soldiers don't use the same weapons...and these atheletes are playing it as a sport not for killing the enemy and defending a nation...very different....
u cant really say that, to win in a competition of scores, u need to get the highest score.Originally posted by Gasfene:Imagine if sg snipers lose, then people will say sg cant fight a war for f sake.

Hi. I'm not in NS yet but how do I apply to be a sniper?Originally posted by crosshairs:Sports shooting and military shooting does have their similarities, but when it comes to specific events during competitions, military style shooting may not be suitable.
Given the type of training, and the mission objectives of sniper training, it would make it very disruptive to their service in the armed forces. Sniper training is not all about shooting. Sniper training is about the art of assasination with shooting as the main mode of delivery. Therefore there is much more to learn, and plenty of time is spent learning about craft that has nothing much to do with shooting.
Having said that, its is without a doubt that our snipers have a certain degree of proficiency when it comes to marksmanship skills. They are free to explore and further develope and hone that part of their skill in the civilian world. I do believe one of our pistol shooters was sniper trained.
For those who wants to join sniper training: no glasses, right master eye, PES A, for army requirements. Does not have as high security clearance requirements as a scout though.
You don't. They'll pick you. What you have to do is display some aptitude. I think you will have to be in sispec for that to happen.Originally posted by Gato1001:Hi. I'm not in NS yet but how do I apply to be a sniper?
