I know ours is the "SG" but if the japanese thinks highly of the F15 then they could have ordered "a new line" F15 with latest upgrade ..instead of eyeing F-22 and now thinking to build their own. I'm afraid they somehow know that F15 is no match to Su-30 (according to that india su-30 vs F15 result?) that china is having. While I'm glad that china has better fighter than the japanese ... I feel uneasy that our northern somehow has better fighter...Originally posted by tankee1981:The Japanese F-15 are of the much earlier models while ours are top of the line new aircraft so there is a difference my friend...

In fact i think e other way round i will be worried if China has better fighters then Jap, given China history it MIGHT pose a threat 2 SEA. At least now Jap can still stop her
May be you should clarify which part of China history in which China was a threat 2 SEA, and how did the Jap stop them. Thank you.Originally posted by spartan6:In fact i think e other way round i will be worried if China has better fighters then Jap, given China history it MIGHT pose a threat 2 SEA. There was China's Role in the Vietnam War, and the Chinese Invasion of Vietnam...Originally posted by sgdiehard:May be you should clarify which part of China history in which China was a threat 2 SEA, and how did the Jap stop them. Thank you.
How does China's role in the Vietnam war in anyway illustrate China's threat to SEA? Vietnam war and Korean war were clashes of ideologies that divided the world after WW2. Vietnam, Korea, AND China were divided into two and war of unification ensued, with the backing of their respective camps. Why should China be singled out as being a threat to SEA in the war of unification of Vietnam?Originally posted by Shotgun:There was China's Role in the Vietnam War, and the Chinese Invasion of Vietnam...
Then why don't you say France and US are also historical threats to SE Asia? They invaded Vietnam, too.Originally posted by Shotgun:There was China's Role in the Vietnam War, and the Chinese Invasion of Vietnam...
in fact, when china invaded Vietnam, it was almost like a major collaboration between the rest of SEA and China.Originally posted by chino65:Then why don't you say France and US are also historical threats to SE Asia? They invaded Vietnam, too.
China's invasion of Vietnam discouraged Vietnam from further threatening other parts of SE Asia.
Yes, it did seem that way...Originally posted by CenturionMBT:in fact, when china invaded Vietnam, it was almost like a major collaboration between the rest of SEA and China.
the PLA were merely afew kilometers from hanoi... the capital of vietnam... but choose to pull out on its own... probably as not to trigger a russian response.Originally posted by chino65:Yes, it did seem that way...
But the threat to SE Asia was removed as only a "by-product".
China had very different and urgent reasons of her own to attack Vietnam.
Cambodia's Pol Pot was a China ally that Vietnam had just invaded and deposed.
Vietnam was very coc.ky after winning the war with US - ironically with China's aid - but was moving into the Soviet camp.
So China was squashed between the (then) hostile Russians in the north and Vietnam in the south. So China decided to whack the dog (Vietnam) to show the owner (Russia) that China is not gonna take encirclement lying down.
Inspite of heavy PLA casualties, China actually achieved all her military and political goals with that war. Of course, with the west "body count" mentality they insist to this day that China lost.
Not only did Vietnam soon pulled out of Cambodia, it also went easy on the Vietnam/Russia anti-China collboration. All were China's political aims. Militarily was less rosy but theyy did invade many km into North Vietnam territories.
If your backyard is already the play ground of many outsiders so what's different?Originally posted by LazerLordz:And what can we learn from this?
That China is not afraid to use our backyard to fulfil her goals.
Did the french step foot into South East Asia, Vietnam? yes. was it an invasion? Yes. Is France a threat to SEA?Originally posted by Shotgun:Firstly, since when was war not about the clash of ideology?
Secondly, did China step foot into South East Asia, Vietnam? Yes. Was it an invasion? Yes. Of course, its a "retaliation." So I guess you can call them Liberators of Cambodia.
So lets throw in more recent history. Vietnamese Gunboats that were sunk off the spratlys. In the period between 1974, and 1999, out of 13 known military clashes around the isles, China was involved in 9 of them.
Are they a threat to South East Asia?
History tells us that the British have occupied and colonised us and the japanese have occupied and ruled us. If we learn from history we may have to use our F-15 against the british and the japanese.Originally posted by mr_sotong:are we discussing about F-15 or history?

Oh come on. France few interests down in SEA today. If you still want to consider France a "threat" to SEA, go ahead.Originally posted by sgdiehard:Did the french step foot into South East Asia, Vietnam? yes. was it an invasion? Yes. Is France a threat to SEA?
Now more than 5 countries are claiming the spratlys, if vietnamese gunboats to the spratlys, china also sent gunboats to the spratlys, why is china is threat to SEA but not vietnam?
China has common border with Thailand, Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam, why would they become a threat to SEA because of the clashes in the isles?
Oh please, I've never suggested a military confrontation with China either. Stop putting words in my "posts."Originally posted by sgdiehard:History tells us that the British have occupied and colonised us and the japanese have occupied and ruled us. You have no idea where we stand in the strategic scheme of things do you.. as in actual foreign policy considerations and not your assumptions and opinions..Originally posted by sgdiehard:History tells us that the British have occupied and colonised us and the japanese have occupied and ruled us. well, the plane does not crash because we shot it, but the pilot dies of fear instead.
