is it true that in some chinese sub-culture, good sons are those who did not join the military?
or was it you only send your worst son to join the military.
regardless, if the SAF is an all volunteer force, would u encourage ur sons (and daughers, if u wish) to join the SAF? hobbies is one thing but the real thing is another kettle... -

In the olden days, Chinese do not like their sons to join the military as its considered as one of the lowest jobs in Chinese society. I have a keen interest in military stuff and I love talking and discussing army stuff...but after sometimes I realise not everybody is interested.
Then I learnt a lesson, sometimes our interests and hobbies need not be outwardly displayed to people who are not interested.
Why people may feel that the hobbyist is proud or "act big" is because they talk too much about it, even when nobody is interested.
So moral of the story is...respect people. When hang out with people, show interest about them, try to talk more about them, then about yourself.
When you show interest and consideration in people's life, people will feel respected, loved and show interest in you.
If people not interested to hear military things, just keep quiet lor...talk about things they interested, then nobody will think you act big.

considering that warfare/military is the an organised form of gang fights, flight dating back to the stone age between rival tribes gaining rights to territories, etc, etc.. and as human progress with civilisation more sophisticated system, strategies, tacties, technologies, etc, etc. It has become a very big area of interest and knowledge.
So there is nothing wrong with good discussion on this area. -
