I was wondering how much those people known as defence analysts who is always on tv like discovery channel, talking how capable a plane or tank or whatever military hardware is earn how much???Seems like an unusual occupation.......... and what other things they do besides appearing on tv

Well,I am in the position to talk coz I already got my honours degree from NUS.After working for 2 more years,I will sign up for the M.Sc course.

One of my contacts in the UK is Paul Beaver. He sometimes appears on the History and Discovery Channels.
Personally, Paul knows a lot more... reason is that he not only reads public domain material but more importantly he has access to senior people directly involved in the technology, the decision making and the politics behind all military matters. From interviews which he conducts with these people, he gets the inside info on policy making in all aspects of warfare. And he interviews ( officially and unofficially) many many people both British and foreign.
Paul is recognised as an expert in a few areas and some years ago he was promoted LTC in the British territorial army ( equivalent to our reserves). I believe he was in the Intel Branch. -

Seriously , I normally does not trust any analyst who are normally thousands of miles away from what they reporting on... just look at the Bill gertz... half the time wrong and is really an alarmist... but always gets fearured in Washington times... oh.. have you guys seen him on Foxnews.. totally lemon.

I was in the TS's shoes before...
I started to like military affairs when I was around his age.So I started reading up more about it,initially,I read mostly those "picture books" with a lot of specs and pics...later I realised there is more to military stuff than just specs and pics...so I started to read about the politics,economics,sociology etc of war also.Well,my EL standards improved a fair bit as a result of this extensive reading.My O level GP was B4 but I got A1 for my GP at the A levels.
I enrolled at the Arts faculty at NUS,4 years later I wrote a ~12,000 word honours thesis with a military themed topic..
From there,one is in a good position to go about becoming a defence analyst.
You are'nt gonna dream of becoming a defence analyst if your O levels don't qualify you for JC.From there,you still have to work very hard to ensure that you qualify for the U and do humanities/social sciences there...
Simply put,if you wanna be a defence analyst,study very hard to ensure that you have a good degree.From there then we talk... -

What I wanna say is being a defence analyst is not just about being able to ramble away about the specs of a certain weapon system.Come on,any pri sch kid can do it also if he is told to do so....
And wait,having an excellent command of English coz you can write another Harry Potter kinda book dont mean a sh-it,you need to be good in academic writing... -
I question the credibility of certain PRC analysts. Those of you with cable might have seen the program on Ch 49. Fat guy decked out in military fatigues who thinks wearing a LBV makes him look gung ho or something.
Very pro China as expected. Most of the time they make it sound like China has the best military in the world & has something to counter everything the West has. What makes me uncomfortable is that there's quite a bit of footage on Taiwan invasion drills. Its almost as if they are adamant about invading the island.
Watched it twice & gave up. If I wanna watch this kinda show, I want a show that is unbiased. If I want to be given propaganda on how great the PLA is, I might as well go around with the communist flag shoved up my you know where. -
