They been practising like everyday, I was at Kallang at 8am a few days ago, and they were already flying.....
F-5 without fuel tanks....will run outta fuel very quickly on afterburner. With fuel tanks, it can't make high-G turns....so they're not so suitable for a good show.
F-5 as aerobatics...i suggest you see Turkish Star n Swis Patrouille Suisse, both uses F-5. -
FYI guyz. Even the Thunderbirds were flying T-38s (the plane which the F-5s were derived from) due to the energy crisis of the mid-70s.
They were used until 1982 when 4 of the planes were destroyed (killing all 4 pilots as well) in a tragic practice accident. Following which the Thunderbirds moved on to the F-16s which they have been using till today... -
that is all too much pomp and fluff if you ask me ....
I'd rather the resources be used for something more useful, more combat training hours perhaps ... than useless shows of hubris like this one ....
if I want to watch something like this, I can stick to the thunderbirds videos, let others paint their flag on the planes, we keep the money ... -
emm.... saw a couple of (gray) f16s practicing (loops in formation?) in the morning abt like southwest from PSA building.. can see from my school. tt was like 3 months ago...first post.

F-5 as aerobatics...i suggest you see Turkish Star n Swis Patrouille Suisse, both uses F-5.
I believe that the tragic accident was the one where the leader flew into the ground. And so did the entire formation because everybody was waiting for the leader's cue.

latest AFM shows that RoKAF gonna replace their Black Eagles's A-37Bs with T-50 Golden Eagle. I am hoping for that IF we get T-50 for TA-4SU replacement

yeah, see them in Diamond almost every other day...from as early as 745am over the skies....

The dangers of this formation is still high. While in this formation, the pilots have very limited visual on each other. Way of the dragon looks like something I saw in top gun. Half-assed rolling scissors that gets back into formation.

Looking at the photos, the Black Knights have put up a commendable effort for a part-time team. Unfortunately for us spectators, they don't fly as tight as the Thunderbirds.
