Missing armed NSman caught in Orchard Road

SINGAPORE: An armed SAF National Serviceman was caught in Orchard Road at 8pm on Monday, 19 hours after he had gone missing from camp.
stupid mushroom... now he can stay behind bars for 7 years...
Police said the 20-year-old went missing at 11.59pm on Sunday from the Mandai Hill Camp, with a rifle and some ammunition issued by the army.
200 officers mounted a manhunt and police found him near Orchard Cineleisure.
They also recovered the missing rifle and ammunition and will investigate the case under the Arm Offences Act.
The Ministry of Defence has identified the NSman as Corporal Dave Teo Ming.
Mindef said he had been given the rifle and ammunition for guard duty.
He is an infantry rifleman from the First Battalion at the Singapore Infantry Regiment.
Corporal Teo was enlisted in the army in September 2005 and will finish his national service with the army next month. - CNA/ir

Seriously, this incident is a terrible disgrace to SAF, have to wait and see what is going to happen to him. -

Prowlers - patrolling guards - are alway in pair - for security and safety reason, also they are issue rifle & ammo & walk-takies only when they are on patrol.... or guarding the gate. The question is the moment that guy try to take off, obviously he have time to get change, hide the rifle in a bag or something .... which will take time - why the guard sergent of guard room, did not know that a guard have become missing... -

i think all this chap needed to do, according to someone from the other thread was bring his duffel along when he went on duty, when no one was looking place rifle in it, then calmly walk out of camp and take a bus or taxi. Harmless looking NS men in No.4 hardly attract attention on public transports... -

most likely he was a sentry. some of them work alone at gates and he can just take the opportunity the Guard Comm leave the gate open after admitting it ppl then sneak out.
Guard Comms also blur and also human want to slack what. so never pay attention. guy just come out of gate throw his gun in a bag then in 5 mins grab a cab and rush to orchard road in time for midnight showing of bourne ultimatium -
Wait. I thought before a guard can go off, he must attend some last parade or staff parade first? Before then, shouldn't ammo be signed back in already?
I can't remember liao, its been ages since i did any guard duty! -

But come to think of it, it's not really difficult to leave the camp if you are a prowler or sentry... you have a 2 hour window to chut all kind of pattern... climb fence, walk out, or all kinds of things. If you know the system from within you can do a lot of things.

Maybe they screwed up by allowing only one gate guard to be stationed. Usually there's 2 guards for security reasons. Maybe this time the other guard tuang, sneak to take a nap. Like that, the other guard sure kena too!! -
I thought the Prowlers(im assuming the ppl at changi airport are also prowlers) loaded mags are black and empty, but they have live ammo in their pouches, 3 rounds in each translucent mag (SAR21) iirc... Mandai hill camp, where got taxi near midnight (when reported missing). must be planned.
CO, RSM, OC, PC, GC, Gd 2i/c all kena
