Strange F16 flight

Not sure if anyone noticed a pair of F16A OR F16Cs coming into Paya Lebar; this morning.
It seemed strange, cause there was white smoke from lead F16 as it was coming in for landing.
Trailing F16 followed with no smoke.
Not sure if there was a problem with the lead

Yes, its smoke not water vapour.
The smoke was not dense and it was dropping ... as it flew by. -
Could have been a new engine they took out of storage?
Was there any peculiar flight deviations? -
I thought we already donated all our A/Bs to the Thais?

was the lead with smoke relatively higher in altitude as compared to the trail on final?? cause if he is, its confirm a flameout! but such cases normally will report on mindef la..

if its truly an engine problem, do you think the air traffic controller would still allow the aircraft to fly over residential or heavily populated areas? if the aircraft drop from the sky, who is going to answer? mindef would not take such a risk.
if the aircraft is experiencing engine problem, the aircraft would be diverted to a more isolated area. -
Yeah, one of our southern islands has an emergency runway. But white smoke on flame out? Could you estimate the approach? 3 degree or steeper than that? 11-12 degrees?

that emergency runway on that island is very short.....
there are some special procedures and provisions for such planes to land. cannot discuss it though.... but they still can land at plab, no harm. -

Yes, it was steep angle, as it swooped overhead. -
flame out AoA is from 7 to 17 degrees.. norm is 3.
singapore east to west is 26 miles, north to south is 14
if the viper is at 20k feet with 6 degrees AoA, it could approximately glide the whole of breath of singapore. i dun think is a very big problem to land back into base with lotsa height to play around with -
Haha, maybe the afterburner malfunctioned and was spraying fuel that somehow didn't ignite but formed this smoke cloud instead?

it wont look like white smoke if it was spraying fuel. that possibility quite remote

Its approach can't be very steep cos its pretty low flying. UNLESS the position where u saw it is pretty near the run way. -

u referring to that 2.5km airstrip on P.Sudong? Thought a C130 can land, rite?
If not, its 24/7 emergency arrester gears are there already.

Don't let your imagination run wild. Aircraft with engine problem, especially single engine ones, will not be over flying populace to land on a runway.

Then it sounds about right for a normal 3 degree glide slope and not a steeper flameout approach.

Higlight of Changi International Aerospace is the all F16 black Knight demo- aleady slated for training soon. You meant only one pilot was trained for opposing solo ??
