To add on..the Japs freaked out and went to Alexandra Hospital (then a British Military Hospital) and massacred about 200 (patients, medical staff) people. It was because of the stubborn defence put up by Lt Adnan and his Royal Malay Regiment soldiers. The Jap casualties were heavy during that battle.Originally posted by Short Ninja:the japanese were so tulan that that they hanged him on a tree and bayonetted him over and over again after he had died.
Yes. We should never forget.Originally posted by CPL:To add on..the Japs freaked out and went to Alexandra Hospital (then a British Military Hospital) and massacred about 200 (patients, medical staff) people. Let's not forget what Lt Adnan and his men did for Singapore.
Well, the alternative is unthinkable: the recruit using his body to shield the officer.Originally posted by maven2:Once at Live Grenade throwing (when I was in the army) Someone dropped the grenade on the parapet and it rolled to just in front of the wall. The officer actually pushed the Nut down and covered him with his own body. I think its something they've been trained to do. Quite a number of officers (even though the asses they are) I believe would put duty above self and protect their men. That is, if they are at the warfront.
Wah, when Sect. Comdr. was CPL...that must be very long ago.Originally posted by chino65:Once at night range I asked the platoon to fall in for a head count.
I was only attached to that infantry unit for one ICT so we didn't know each other well.
One Hokkien Peng remained squatting down and when I (Cpl) asked him to stand up he told me to KNN and said he had a headache.
More or less the whole platoon heard him using bad language on me - a Sect Cmdr.
I was mad but let him be at that time.
...
Afterwards when everyone disperse I went up and jabbed him (not too hard) in the chest with my rifle butt and told him not to refer to parents when speaking. He was furious and surprised but did nothing.
He and a couple of his tattooed buddies look at me not shiok for the next few days afterwards but also did nothing.
I got on very well with the rest of the people especially the section under me and if this guy from another section doesn't like me, too bad.
I admit it was a bad move leadership-wise but I was furious at that time also. And to have done nothing would probably be even worse.
What would you have done?
to add more...after the japanese won they went to kajang Selangor looking for his wife and kids to kill them but fortunately his father hides them.Originally posted by LazerLordz:Yes. We should never forget.
To add on still tulan till this day as Japan barely beat SIngapore 2-1 at Jalan Besar a few years ago.....Originally posted by tankfanatic:to add more...after the japanese won they went to kajang Selangor looking for his wife and kids to kill them but fortunately his father hides them.
Good call. I've seen similar things happen before, and because the SC took it too personally, the whole platoon had a front-row seat to a shoving match between a commander and his subordinate. Takes a real man to swallow his ego first and settle things man-to-man.Originally posted by chino65:Once at night range I asked the platoon to fall in for a head count.

And we went to Saitama in the middle of winter and we held them to 0-1.Originally posted by Short Ninja:To add on still tulan till this day as Japan barely beat SIngapore 2-1 at Jalan Besar a few years ago.....
It was in the 90's. By then all the Sect Cmdr were Sgts. But I had the odd rank of being a Cpl and they were short of Sgts.Originally posted by specialOps:Wah, when Sect. Comdr. was CPL...that must be very long ago.
If it happens today...I think most of us 3SG will recommend him for charge for insubordination liao...throw him to DB a few days...
Well saidOriginally posted by LazerLordz:And we went to Saitama in the middle of winter and we held them to 0-1.
One day..we will beat Japan and maybe the ghosts will be laid to rest.
You're right, it would've been a huge disaster to confront him head on there and then.Originally posted by Hellraiza:Good call. I did something similar. Use another method - no one ever dare to do that again Night range ? because of headache then KNN right ?Originally posted by Hellraiza:Good call. Its not about rank but respect and esprit de coup.In the 80s and early 90s you could see weird appointments.Lance corporal as SC,Corporal as Platoon sgt Sgt as CSM while the SSGs as platoon sgts,SSG as PC ,LT as OC while Cpts as PCs.Temporary appointment while waiting for the right promotion.Originally posted by chino65:It was in the 90's.
