i suppose the merkava days are numbered the israeli method of blitzkrieg is hell of a useless against guerillas(however u spell it) the idea is to give fire support/armour/shielding while troops get off and then form a perimeter while waiting for infantry to move in but if u look at its performance in lebanon it was pretty much worthless to have.
about the panther its armour was pretty thin at the top so i doubt its the equavalant of a leopard 2 -

Looks different from the pic. Owell.. Abrams prob can take out a few hundred.. it only uses a GPMG! -

That's like saying the AH-64D is useless to have because it can, and has gotten shot down, and 2006 was hardly an indication of the Merky doing what it does best, which it did not get the chance to.
The "failure" of the Merkava is due to bad tatics, intelligence and planning, not because the tank was unable to do its job. I think we would be hard pressed to find any MBT in the world that is as suited for fighting urban as the Merky.
Unfortunately they were deployed poorly in 2006 and never got a chance to truly put the pressure on the enemy given their orders and objectives were highly restricted given the politics of the affair. In short they did not get the chance to really take the fight to the enemy as much as they could have done.
This is not a case of the MBT being worthless to have, but a case of bad tatics and planning leading to unnecessary losses. At the end of the day technology only gets you this far, but you still got to use your brains to fight. -

During the blitzkrieg campaigns against Poland,France and the Low Countries,there were very very few heavy tanks used.
The Tiger,King Tiger and Panther were in the minority even late in the war. -
In fact....Germany did not have any heavy tank until the later part of 1943 when the Panther made it's appearance to replace the Panzer IV. Before that...the Germans only had the Panzer III and IV as Ãt's most heavy tanks...and the III and IVs were only classified as medium tanks...Thus, it can be considered that no German heavy tank ever fought in the invasion of Poland and France during the first half of the war.

I didn't know Vickers made a .5" HMG.

My favourite tank is the US M3 Lee. I saw one in a war museum in London and the thing is tall! Officially it is 2.72m in height.

Medium tank
The TM-800 medium tank is armed with a 100-mm main gun. Gun is loaded manually. Secondary armament consists of coaxial 7.62-mm machine gun, and roof mounted 12.7-mm machine gun.
The main external difference of this medium tank is that it has 6 small road wheels rather than 5 larger on the T-54/T-55. The TM-800 is also fitted with side skirts. Vehicle is powered by a diesel engine, developing 830 horsepower.
Have many upgrades.

They have to reinforce the lower frontal hull of the Challenger 2, especially after the use of the RPG-29 that penetrated that area and ripped the driver's leg off.

Personally, I believe that depleted uranium rounds are much much more hazardous for humans and earth. No stopping the most "benign" country in the world from using it anyway.
Geneva convention is just a scam to trick naive nations. Because the countries that are the loudest in promoting such conventions are always the countries that have the least hesitation breaking them.
